Gravatar It's horrific.

And I see story after story after story about how acceptable rape is, and it makes me question the world in which I live. Like, I didn't think I lived in a world in which rape was cute and fun and okay, but apparently I do. It's enough to make you lose sleep.

Gravatar Ugh. I knew this was gonna happen. I fuckin' knew it. A former colleague of mine worked on this story when it broke.

And Deb? It's not a world where rape is fun, it's a world where she asked for it. Why? Well, because she did, at least to the players, the parents of the young men involved, the investigators and the DA.

There's something rotten in Denmark here.

Gravatar This case was insane. The fact that they declined to really interview the women who barged into the room- terrible.

Gravatar Premeditated rape?

Gravatar Yes, Doghouse, as opposed to the " involuntary" or "absentminded" rape that so often happens. I take it that the fact that the woman was "vomited on" by someone else proves that it is *she* who raped the person who vomited on her. I would be reminded of the famous scene from This is Spinal Tap except that this is so not funny.

Gravatar By Debra Saunders' logic, we shouldn't prosecute a teen who decides it's a good idea to drive drunk and slams into a carload of people -- if said driver is a teen in a car with a bunch of other drunk teens and s/he only kills other teens. Isn't that, after all, another example of something teens do "in an alcohol-fueled atmosphere that they never would have done sober or alone"?

Gravatar Aimai, I wrote a post about this for Shakesville, and quoted and linked you, of course.

Gravatar Sorry, Tom! I fixed the post at Shakesville and at my place. I really do know how to read. I promise!

Gravatar No problem! I just thought it was amusing.

Gravatar Also, if it makes you feel any better, I totally misread one of the key details in the story and didn't figure it out until after I posted it. So...it happens.

Gravatar This case was insane. The fact that they declined to really interview the women who barged into the room- terrible.

I suppose if they had they might have risked obtaining evidence against those fine upstanding young men.

Let me make it clear for poor dim Debra: if the (underage) girl is passed out drunk, there is no consent.

She had someone else's vomit in her mouth - as I remarked in Kathy's Shakes post, that's absolute proof that she was incapacitated - nothing sets off the gag reflex like the taste of vomit. So not only no consent, but no possible chance of it.
