As I said at Shakesville: I feel so fucking proud to be a Californian today.
(Catherine at Poverty Barn deserves a hat tip for getting the news out.)

Hell, even the Governor is on board, sorta shocking.
"I respect the Court's decision and as Governor, I will uphold its ruling. Also, as I have said in the past, I will not support an amendment to the constitution that would overturn this state Supreme Court ruling."

wow, the schwartzengovernor said that? that is fantastic news. It really is a hugely great day, and if MA is any indication this will soon be the least shocking and interesting development of all time. A couple of years into this and even the mid core anti gay lunatics will forget they ever opposed it. Hard core, of course, will never forget. But they will die off.

Yay, California!
Time to lobby Mrs. Praxxus to move back there.

Yes, a commenter over at Hot Air (hat tip tbogg of course!) predicts that a huge number of christian dwellings will soon come on the market in CA, and not just because they are defaulting on their loans like the rest of the pervs, but because they won't be willing to stay in that sinful hotbed. Make room! make room! Can we hope that they all have great houses in great locations? Because that will be a nice knock on from this decision.

Well, as my officemate and I just agreed on, this means (according to the Fallwell/Robertson/Parsley Rules) that California is now due either a terrorist attack or massive natural disaster.
Plus, if Mrs. P. and I were to move back there, it would end our marriage. So perhaps we shouldn't rush into things.

Praxxus, and . I'm sure the "God's wrath" bullsh*t will start anytime now, if it hasn't already. Strangely, my traditional marriage is not at all threatened by this news. I do have an unusual urge to start looking for some fire-sale property in CA.
Tom, you should be proud! Deborah, thanks for posting your link; I've added it above. aimai and humboldt (and Tom), would I be correct in assuming that this ruling is a twofer for Schwarzenegger -- the result he wanted and the political cover to get it w/o taking a public stand?

I'm also grinning ear-to-ear, and posted a brief little something right after I heard the news on the radio. Today is a proud day for all Californians!

Yes and no I think. I am not surprised Arnold made the statement he did, he is, after all, a product of Hollywood and I can't imagine he doesn't have close friends, associates and supporters who are gay.
It's easy to mock Schwarzenegger, but I will give him this: when he speaks about what a privilege it is to be a citizen of this nation he speaks honestly and from the heart. I also don't believe he's as conservative as he and others makes him out to be.
The folks at Calitics will kick my ass for saying this, but some of the measures he has put forth, particularly about revamping the state budget do make sense. He's certainly a moderate Republican, if that species still exists.
If I'm not mistaken, Arnold vetoed a measure that would have outlawed same-sex marriage in 2004. I haven't researched it at all, so there stands a good chance I am wrong.
But his statement today is a very public one, and I don't believe he's ever had to hide from this issue, as I said earlier, he is a product of Hollywood.

Here's an interesting piece from the Mercury News, it highlights two of the plaintiffs whose names were on the original case.

One other thing before I actually go and do some of the work I am paid to do ... this is not the 9th circuit court of appeals which is nothing more than a commie-pinko-hippie love fest. /snark.
Of the seven justices, 5 are Republicans, and three of them came down on the side of justice and equality.

Schwartzenegger speaks about what a privilige it is to be a "citizen of this nation?" Sure, but does he get all tingly over the wright brothers? I understand that is the true test.

I believe LG&M have proved me wrong. They have a link to Arnold stating that he would veto legalization of same sex marriage and that he would rather the courts decide the issue.
Also, Firedoglake also deconstructs Arnold a little more, particularly as to the state budget.
