Yeah, that was a great post.
Steyn and his ilk have an utterly foreign and backward heroic narrative they're pushing on the USA. But our narrative is rapidly burying theirs.
Not only that, there is no subject that is more poorly taught in both middle and high school than history.
Instead of a focus on how everything and everyone has a history, including the sciences, literature, etc. we get pap-filled paeans to the lost america of the past.
Instead of teaching the web of history that surrounds each and everyone one us, that touches each and every life, we get a simple-minded, linear recitation of dates and actions that do little to illustrate how amazing and tragic, heroic and exploitative the growth of this nation has been.
History IS, not was. It's happening as I type, each and every moment that passes passes into history and all we can manage to do is find one or two of those moments to describe a generation, and era, and epoch.
Agh, it makes me wanna scream.
