That is some fine music. The 60% or so I know, I like. The rest I'll have to find. Not that you need my input, but personal favorites who never seem to get enough love: The Fleshtones, KC and the Sunshine Band and The Golden Palominos. And, of course, Johnny Dowd And I'm surprised none of you mentioned The Yayhoos' Dancing Queen. It would have fit anywhere (except maybe next to Leonard Nimoy.) Can I say "thanks for sharing" in a non-ironic way in a blog comment?

And then there are the artists who both covered songs and had songs covered: Steve Earle, Eno, Johnny Cash, Alejandro Escovedo (as himself and in Buick McKane), and Bob Dylan.
Great fun.

Glad you enjoyed it, Drip. Steve, I hadn't noticed that--that is yet another level of fun. Cool.

Steve, I almost put Yo La Tengo covering themselves on there ("Barnaby, Hardly Working" from Fakebook), and then one group would count in both categories with one song.
Tom, is that live Television from The Blow-Up? So that means I do actually have to buy it someday?

Yes, it is. It's on eMusic, though, so I didn't have to buy the whole thing--I just downloaded a few of the cherser tracks.

Tom:
I'm surprised not to see TNK and Heartbreak Hotel (you know by whom) on your list. My list, of course, has only one item: the Roto Rooter Goodtime Christmas Band's trombone and low sax cover of Purple Haze.

Somehow, when it came time to compile the CDs I spaced on about half a dozen really obvious choices. Oh, well...maybe a third disk...
