Friedman's piece, as usual, triggers a shrug and a response of "yeah, well. . . so?"
But to go along with the metaphor for a moment, 9/12 isn't good enough. We've wasted six years and change since 09/12/2001.
When it comes to national security and foreign relations, we need leadership that can see beyond the Middle East, view Israel as an important friend and ally but not Uncle Sam's family jewels, and deal with dangers potentially far greater and more likely than those posed by al Qaeda.

So I guess that answers the question of what it would take for Thomas Friedman to notice something right in his face.
It'd be nice if the mustache would now apply this lesson to things that come down the pike in the future.
