Gravatar Wonderful post, De.

Gravatar Lovely! Thank you. I'm right there with you on the easily bored, saying inappropriate things, short-tempered, shoddy manager train. I just hope I get some of the other things right.

Gravatar I didn't get the itching and gas from pregnancy. I got the sex drive from hell, and I wanted to sleep when I wasn't wanting sex. And I wanted to eat everything in sight. It was crazy. My husband at the time rather liked at least one part of this insanity.

I did all my crying that first month of motherhood, until I figured out how to get the kid to sleep when I was going to go crazy if I didn't get some sleep. One of my accidental discoveries: My kid would fall asleep as soon as he heard the theme music for the soap opera, Guiding Light. Every day. Without fail.

I finally figured out why: When I was on half-days at work the last few months of my pregnancy, I got addicted to soaps. Well, one of them, As the World Turns. It always came on about the time I got home from work, so I'd watch it while I was having lunch. Then I'd crash on the sofa. I'd make it through that show, but I'd invariably fall asleep when the next show was up. Yep, it was Guiding Light. So I guess the kid got some kind of signal that Guiding Light = nap time.

Opportunist that I am, I recorded an episode on the VCR, and, when I was really desperate, I'd play that theme for him. Got him to sleep through the night before he was three months old by playing that tape every night!

Gravatar That's a great story, LJ.

Gravatar Wonderful post, Deb! Having met Arthur in person, I know for fact that you have much to be proud of ... and that since you became a member, Motherhood never had it so good.
