Gravatar They'll get dumped. It sucks, but it''ll happen.

Mixter

Gravatar "John Edwards is a decent man..." etc. etc.

Bill Donohue, on the other hand, is a bigoted, blustering, censorious idiot who should not be paid attention to by anyone with even half a brain under any circumstances.

Gravatar Well, I'm a Catholic and I don't object.

Somehow I don't think Nedra will respond to my email, though.

Gravatar Where was Bill Donohue when Karl Rove was playing his nasty, underhanded games to get W elected? Oh, wait, Donohue supported W, so I guess any tactic, no matter how sleazy, was perfectly acceptable. Two bloggers expressing their opinions honestly? Terrible, I tell you. Just terrible.

I don't read Amanda regularly, but I read Melissa every day, and I'm damned if I can remember seeing any anti-Catholic slurs. She does call out faux-Christian wingnuts who use their "faith" as an excuse for bigotry and hatred, however, and I guess she stepped on Donohue's toes there.

Gravatar Mixter, I'm afraid you're probably right. The 'weighing the fate' quote is not encouraging.

Generik, absolutely right. What's more, Donohue himself doesn't believe Edwards is a 'decent man'...and we'll see as much in the general if Edwards is the candidate. Then it'll be 'no decent Catholic can vote for him', just like he said about Kerry.

Lettuce, I don't know anyone who's Catholic who would agree with Donohue. But then I don't hang out with wingnuts. Let me know if you do get a response from Pickler.

Kathy, you're absolutely right. Donohue's mission is to shut down all criticism of the (cultural) far-right party line by labeling it 'anti-Catholic'.

Gravatar Another point could be that the far right is starting to get mighty scared of how powerful the netroots community is becoming. The most recent election must have certainly given them pause, and they might be bringing out all the weaponry to make sure they're still seen as the top dog.

I agree completely. The phrase that kept going through my head this morning was "The Empire Strikes Back".
