Yeah, the natives had more sense than to build too close to the high water line. It's too bad 20th Century developers didn't have as much common sense.
I used to live in Squamish, and every year folks had to hold their breath to see if they'd be flooded out.

Haha! I completely agree with you dmorris! I hear housing is a lot cheaper on flood plains, so why am i supposed to feel a lot of mercy for any one of these inhabitants cry for flood relief funding?
Anyway, judging by the cooler weather and lack of precip, the worst seems to be over right now.
It would take 4 or more days of 30 degree-plus weather to cause any further havoc now.

I saw the Mayor of Terrace (I like to call him Mr. Clueless-Moron) on CBC news the other day. He said that the flooding really isn't that bad... and when the anchor asked if he thinks they'll need assistance with clean up etc he said that things were under control and that school kids were helping... ya, he's REALLY smart. They eventually realized that he is actually a complete moron and have now been talking exclusively to the deputy mayor. Thank god she actually has a clue!
60% of the snow pack is still just waiting to melt. I hope the weather cooperates. It sucks being far away and not being able to help friends and family.

the percentage of snow pack obviously depends on elevations. Some mountains have more than others.
The Bulkley River has gone down several feet already. This is making room for the next heat wave/melt. So it actually does look pretty positive right now.

Heya Pops! So at least you got a bit of relief up there too. Did the Stikine threaten any homes?
