Thanks Terry for telling this story again on this day. God bless his memory. The way your Dad told me the story is that Hub Doyle, the Ebgineer of the Dinky would lean his head out the train window and yell, "Boys you better go back home, I'm gonna tell your Daddy on you."

Terry, I loved reading this story again - especially in your wonderful and unique way. This is the story that I wrote as a children's book when I took a course in children's literature. And the photographs! I loved the photograph of Daddy Shaw in front of the barber shop. I remember so well running to the barber shop to see him whenever we visited in Milstead. Thanks for this post.

Thanks, Carol. I'd love to read your kid's book.
I read your "Under Daddy's Wing" post again today and thought I might try to dig up your article from Out & About and post it. I'm sure I have it on an old floppy around here somewhere. The blogosphere deserves the more complete version!

Terry, I loved reading this story. I can just see Uncle Charles telling it. It is hard to believe it has been twenty years. Time sure gets away from us, doesn't it. I miss him too...he was very special to me.

Thanks for writing this story. I hadn't heard it before! I love it. I knew Granddaddy was adventurous in his adulthood, but he was a child, too, huh? No surprise, there. I loved reading the story - you told it well.

Carol -- Sheila and I are trying to go through old boxes and organize our packrat nest here. Guess what we found today! Your kid's book about Daddy and James' adventure in the Yellow River! So I have read it!
When I took Kiddie Lit (back in 1970), I had to write a kids' book too. I don't know what ever happened to it, but I wish it had been as memorable as yours.
