I'd been speeding ticket free for a long time and then last 4th of July on my way to a holiday get-together, the officer in a small burg got me -- seems they've extended the village's 25mph zone considerably far down what I thought was a country road: zap -- $100 gone. What a way to celebrate my freedom.
I'm not sure yet about my summer plans but hope to see you.

I loved this post. Believe me, I know how stern daddy could be when he needed to be.

Thanks for the comments, Mike and Jane. Somehow a series of e-mails about speeding tickets got started among my siblings and other family members and I eventually had to tell my tales.
I'll never forget the look on your Daddy's face, Jane! It was mostly surprise. He was not very stern. He didn't have to be. I was mortified.

Thanks for posting this great story. As you may suapect, I think you are a wonderful writer and storyteller...not to mention singer and actor. And i am not writing this because you are my yardman!

How did I miss responding to the "yardman" crack last summer?
I return the compliments, even the actor part now, I guess, with your current project in front of the camera. I remember you and Daddy singing duets in church. Your writing is renowned. I can attest to your storytelling skills from the early fifties on.
And I don't write that just because you are my mama.
