I had never heard it without the dialect before, but I think Tricia's version is beautiful too. I could not quite imagine her voice and the song together, but she does it justice.


Gravatar It's interesting that you feel just fine singing Tevye's songs with an Israeli accent, or Charlie Anderson's song with an exaggerated southern accent, or "Danny Boy" with an Irish brogue - and yet you feel uncomfortable singing SLJB with a "black dialect." Seems rather sad how so many people feel they have to walk on eggshells when it comes to just the possibility of offending someone of African descent.

SLJB is a nice song, but it has never been one of my favorite Christmas songs. However, I enjoy hearing you sing anything. I hope you will sing "O Holy Night" on Wednesday at Mother's. Start practicing!
