You have my deepest empathy for the loss of your son, and let me say I fully support your positions. But also let me gently remind you that for the Indian Nations of this continent that flag has always stood for rape, murder and thievery. If you are going to tackle the beast you must first understand that the behavior of Bush & Co, the illegal invasion, the atrocities at Abu Ghraib, Guantenamo, and in the secret prisons are is not aberrant or unusual for the US. I remember laughing with bitter irony when Powell proclaimed to the UN that the US never invaded and took anyone's territory. I immediately called Washington and demanded to have my (HAH!) representative and senators explain exactly how the thirteen colonies expanded into fifty states if that was true. I explained how it demeaned the Nations and reduced their citizens to to non-human status. I guess they thought I was connected to a gambling tribe (I'm not, my tribe was cheated out of even a barren, miserable reservation; what we got was deported and made permanently homeless), for the next day the statement was amended to include the phrase "in this century".
America does not have a pretty history: any call to return to the "times we can be proud of again" sends cold, scary, shivers down my spine. I'll happily join you in helping make it better, preferably with the freedom of the Nations restored to them, as was promised so long ago, but I have no desire to return to any time in America's past. To which period do you wish to return? The genocidal wars of expansion (1788-1890), the violent suppression of workers fighting for their rights (1890's-1950's), the repressives fifties wherein women couldn't do anything without male sponsorship or permission, minorities were brutalized, and white males ruled all, the sixties and seventies period of an earlier anguished, illegal war, or perhaps the greedy eighties, filled with the homeless and helpless turned out to allow record fortunes to be built, or perhaps the nineties,the time of fattening for the slaughter. No, not for me any return to any period of America's past.
I would like to help bring about a better future, though, one that limits the amount of wealth an individual may amass, one that gives the people control over where and how their taxes are spent, one that ensures fair and clean elections not populated exclusively with lawyers and businessmen, one that recognizes that each person has a right to a society in which they have a fair share of resources, wealth, and time.
For my part I will continue to speak out against the wrongs I see. I will continue to call for genuine change. And I will always work for the return of my people's freedom. Swastika is neither a German word or a German symbol.
It is originally ancient Sanskrit.
The symbol the nazis used was called 'Das Hakenkreuz' [hooked cross].
It's unlikely Hitler and co. would have ever heard of the word swastika.
The photos showing buildings and groups of buildings with this design are not related to Nazism.
There are thousands of buildings in the world including High Schools, Air terminals, Factories, etc

As a British child, I really aspired to someday working and living in the US. I would doodle-draw the US flag, and I even developed an American accent! There was no doubt in my mind: America was the greatest country in the world.

I'm a Brit, and I spent 4th July 2001 in Boston, MA. It was amazing! I couldn't help but get caught up in the partriotic fervour, and before long I was chanting "USA" along with everyone else.
Then at one point, a huge, beautiful US flag unfurled from the ceiling of the outdoor auditorium and I stared at it in awe. It symbolised so much. That's when I had this thought:
I was reminded of Nazi Germany, of how the Swastika would have put the same sort of pride and patriotic fervour into the hearts of Germans. It was a superpower then, able to define what was right and wrong (just like America today). The German military followed orders because it believed it was acting in the best interests of Germany.
It took generations before Germany realised its mistakes and collapsed. I believe America is now heading towards a similar fate.

My thanks to those who actually thought about and understood what I was trying to say. I was beginning to wonder what sort of folk populated this site, after the vilification and abuse I endured for trying to have a reasoned discussion about and daring to say that both sides of the Palestinian/Israeli war have committed atrocities, stupidities, and counterproductive ego trips. I really wasn't aware that I'm a zionist shill (probably the least offensive thing I was called) for pointing out that terrorism, in the end, is a go-nowhere-but-hatred tactic, and true compromise is necessary, lol. But that's a different issue.
The problem we have in dealing with the neo-cons is that they do not care one whit about anyone's opinions but theirs, so they can't be shamed into anything. They also have little if any experience with, or respect for, anything remotely resembling true democracy. Think of the socioeconomic environment in which they have spent their lives: the corporate boardrooms aren't exactly the very founts of democracy. Rather they are bastions of dictatorships run far more along Imperial Roman lines than Greek democracies. These are people who accept as an article of faith that government is inherently wasteful, inefficient, and works best when it doesn't work at all. They also accept as an article of faith that wealthy people are wiser, more capable and have more right to rule than the ignorant masses. Wealthy people are merely vastly more ruthless. I submit that most are successful sociopaths. So protests and marching are generally not very effective in influencing their behavior.
Robert A. Heinlein once wrote "Never appeal to a man's better nature. He may not have one. Invoking his self-interest gives you more leverage." The source of their power is their ability to control wealth accumulation and distribution. They have this ability because they control the organs of government that set the rules. Voting them out doesn't work because most of the time we end up merely voting in a different set of their supporters. The difference between Republicans and Democrats isn't one of kind, it's one of degree. The Democrats are going to the same place, they just favor a subtler, slower approach that is less likely to arouse the masses. The Republicans are more impatient and discount the masses' ability to do anything to stop them: they have most of the money and most of the weapons, so who cares if the masses get rowdy? Shoot or jail enough and the rest will quiet down. So how to invoke their self-interest?
One way is revolution, nothing can change attitudes quicker than a choice between the noose and cooperation (for all their bravado and willingness to let others die for them, personal bravery isn't their strong suit)...but I've been in enough wars already, and can take no joy in body counts, not even those of my enemies. Fight if you must, but don't fight minions: go directly after the ones who count. A better way I think to use the initiative process where it is available to place limits on wealth, say at one billion max, although that may be too high, and to take control of state and federal budget-making authority. make the proposed limit low enough and you will engage their self-interest. I see no reason why budget request can't be published on a government net and people be allowed to allocate their taxes where they see the need. Don't allow anyone to put every bit of their taxes into one item and close each budget category when it is full. Without the ability to control the purse, the Republocrats will have greatly diminished power.
Protests make the protesters feel better temporarily, but are more useful to the oppressors to aid in identifying those who may be dangerous before they can actually become so. So unless your protest has something about it (economic consequences) that can cause genuine harm to the oppressors, the oppressors generally find them more useful tools than the protestors do.

I just wanted to say that Cindy Sheehan is telling americans the truth about our federal government in particular the Bush Administration or and the Bush family. How he/they are above the law and have no feelings at all for the poor or our powerful military people that goes following orders to murder and torture people around the globe. Bush's deception of being reborn and a God loving person is "BULL" that was just for thier votes, he (Bush) loves nothing but himself and money and power. Only if all these people joining the armed force's would stop joining and even the one's already in the military would wake up and stop killing everybody or anybody at the request of our bogus commander & chief and leave the military; to the point where we didn't have such a large killing army in person's at least, but they would then bring up the draft in which everyone should ignore even if it means going to jail; we got to stop this evolving killing machine that Bush, Britan, and Israel are implimenting around the globe, can the common man begin to live for thier family and God and the law's of God over the law's of man, so we can have a chance to live a decent prospering life. Icould say a lot more but I'll stop here; most of you know as well as I to what is going on "we the slaves" are not as stupid as our government tried to raise us to believe by our public school system and all the propaganda we here on the main stream media; we now have to search for the truth in independent media of all sorts. The mainstream media is not worth your time to waste it hearing Bush's propaganda machine at work 7/24.

Let me give you people a little insight on the war over here. I hope everyone knows this already, but we are doing some good over here. I know you guys see all the negative press, but I wish your eyes would be open to see the good in the things that we are doing in Iraq. The Iraqi people love us here. When I tell them that my unit is leaving soon, they get upset thinking no one will take our place. But they don't have to worry, because we will be over here for a very long time. I am going to back over here many years to come because I am re-enlisting just like Cindy's son did before he paid the ultimate price. We will have to worry about one less Arab nation trying to rise up rule the Middle East and try something even bigger.
And answer this question for me. If we (in the US)are so wrong, why are there so many countries over here fighting right next to us. I serve with British, Itialian, Polish, Swiss, Macedonian and Aussie forces.

Our rights are UNALIENABLE. They come from GOD, not from some huge killing spree. The wars you advocate are the very OPPOSITE of freedom. Before I say anything, you don't do yourself or the Corps honor by using profanity to the extent you did in the above post. By using filthy and profane language you are telling everyone reading your post that you are illiterate and a lot of people come to believe that only low life illiterates are in the military, which is a far cry from the truth.
As a former officer in the USMC I was proud and extremely patriotic, I would have gone anywhere my commander in chief ordered me to go and do anything I was ordered to do for my country. I took my oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic very seriously, and still do.
That being said, I will admit to being very young and very gullible in my thinking. I am 57 years old now and I have experienced a lot, particularly a lot of things that my government has done in the name of democracy. I have come to a place in my life where I no longer believe the platitudes and propaganda put out by my government. We are no longer the same country we once were. Especially since 9/11 our government, lead by the likes of George W. Bush and company have and continue to lead this once great nation down a path of destruction that I fear we will not recover from.
Sgt. Allen, I understand your anger too, I would however, encourage you and others that are blindly buying off on the "party line" to examine the evidence for yourself, ask questions and don't simply do what you are told if you know it is wrong. All the evidence, for example, points to 9/11 being an inside job. The evidence is irrefutable that the twin towers and building number 7 came down not from burning jet fuel, but by controlled implosions. Don't take my word for it, do your own investigation. The Internet has an abundance of information available for anyone with an inquisitive and open mind.

I am angry that my life doesn’t belong to me anymore. I am angry that I am required to obtain permission, fill out mandated paperwork in quadruplicate, and obtain the correct license or permit for just about everything imaginable. The tentacles of government are strangling my freedom, choice, and privacy at an alarming rate. The wrath of the machine is a constant threat should I dare do anything without leaving a neon paper trail and of course ignorance of the law is never an excuse.I am angry that property rights are a thing of the past thanks to court-approved eminent domain theft.I am angry that the Constitution is routinely declared irrelevant making it easier for a fascist police state and new world order to take over. I am angry that legislation is in the works that will require me to carry "papers" to "prove" who I am. Another coming law I will ignore.I am angry that my right to own and carry a firearm is drastically regulated and restricted. I am angry every time I see a young person detained on the side of the road while cops paw through their possessions looking for anything that could enable them to be arrested and dragged through the criminal justice system. This has become so commonplace it is now the accepted norm. I am angry that roadblocks are set up under the guise of keeping roads free of drunk drivers. What has happened to my right to travel freely? Why am I presumed guilty without probable cause? I am afraid to have a few drinks when I go out to dinner for fear I will be pulled over and end up in court-ordered drug rehabilitation.I am angry when I read stories of Americans terrorized in airports and treated like common criminals by government minions after they have paid for the right to travel within a private system, yet pilots are blocked from carrying firearms. I am angry that America has become a nation of busybodies. We are constantly bombarded with messages to be on the lookout for terrorists around every corner, report "suspicious activity," and rat on our neighbor whenever the opportunity presents itself. Is this not how the Nazis gained control of Germany and then most of Europe? I am angry that the government requires me to sign a form every time I purchase a prescription. Whose business is it that I choose to take a thyroid medication, an antibiotic, a painkiller, an appetite suppressant, or any other substance? Am I dying of cancer? Am I facing debilitating chronic pain? Do I simply want to get HIGH? Heaven forbid someone out there might get their hands on something that might make them FEEL GOOD! No substance should be illegal or unobtainable. If a person wishes to self-medicate, that is their right. The government should not be in the business of criminalizing personal choices of any kind as long as those choices don’t infringe on another’s rights. I am angry that my government meddles in the lives of people all over the world but looks the other way on the catastrophic issue of what to do about the millions of illegals who have crashed the gates of this nation. My country’s laws are ignored and mocked, yet I am told I must accept with open arms those who are here illegally. My taxes are used to educate their children in their native language. Hospitals are overrun with indigent people seeking medical care. Untaxed dollars earned in the underground economy are sent to the family back home while social services here are stretched to the limit. I read job want ads stating if you aren’t bilingual don’t bother to apply. What would happen to me if I placed an ad that said don’t bother to apply if your English isn’t understandable? I admire your patience. I usually feel that trying to communicate with such low-level, robotic thinking is a waste of time. My father suffered through the 1930s, and he always said that people only start thinking when their stomachs are empty. But maybe he and I are both wrong. I'd be curious to hear from Cpl. Petit as to whether or not the time and energy you put into your well-reasoned has had any effect on his point of view. Perhaps it's too soon. Perhaps someday in the future, your words will nourish him in his own development.

Excellent point! On the other hand, however, Allen's vulgarity is revealling. Sgt. Allen has been given an IMPOSSIBLE, mad mission. Come to think of it, what IS the mission? In sch a situation, vulgarity is the only honest response. It's an expression of impotent rage -- rage against the Iraqis, no doubt, rage against the critics of the war, and maybe someday, rage against the chickenhawk ghouls who SENT Allen to participate in this vast killing spree. One can only hope that Allen will someday find the courage to name the REAL enemy.

As a former officer in the USMC I was proud and extremely patriotic, I would have gone anywhere my commander in chief ordered me to go and do anything I was ordered to do for my country. I took my oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against ALL enemies, foreign and domestic very seriously, and still do.
That being said, I will admit to being very young and very gullible in my thinking. I am 57 years old now and I have experienced a lot, particularly a lot of things that my government has done in the name of democracy. I have come to a place in my life where I no longer believe the platitudes and propaganda put out by my government. We are no longer the same country we once were. Especially since 9/11 our government, lead by the likes of George W. Bush and company have and continue to lead this once great nation down a path of destruction that I fear we will not recover from.
Sgt. Allen, I understand your anger too, I would however, encourage you and others that are blindly buying off on the "party line" to examine the evidence for yourself, ask questions and don't simply do what you are told if you know it is wrong.
All the evidence, for example, points to 9/11 being an inside job. The evidence is irrefutable that the twin towers and building number 7 came down not from burning jet fuel, but by controlled implosions. Don't take my word for it, do your own investigation. The Internet has an abundance of information available for anyone with an inquisitive and open mind.
