David at thirdworldcounty.com has the same video up and a couple of others besides.
Ronald Reagan is one of my favorite presidents of all time. This man was a true conservative, battling against entrenched socialism and bureaucracy at a time when few others would stand on principle. The leaders of today's "conservative" movement are but pale shadows of this man.
Even Newt Gingrich - the archetypal "right winger" of today, doesn't stick to his conservative principles as well as Reagan did. Instead he endorses liberal candidates in the name of political expediency and even has disdain for the Constitution he purports to revere. His support of federal drug laws despite the lack of Constitutional authority for them is particularly shameful.
Don't get the idea that I am pro-drug-abuse here. I think that many of the drugs that are illegal under the current federal laws ought to be illegal. The authority to enact those laws belongs to the states though, not the federal government.
Ronald Reagan was a great man, and a great conservative. We were extremely "lucky" to have had him for President at a time when the world was going to Hell in a hand-basket. We need conservatives like him at all levels of government today!
I wonder sometimes where we'll find them.

I was only 14 years old at the time this election was in the works and I recall how the news media did a total character assassination of Barry Goldwater, as if he had just escaped from the mental hospital; and all because he stood up to the socialist agenda. Things haven't changed all that much, now have they? The far left still destroys anyone who doesn't step into line with their agenda.

Thanks for sharing this. I had never heard it before but how wonderful it was to hear. I was 18 in 1984, and could vote in that election. I knew I liked Regan then, but now I really know why.

TF, your comment about Goldwater woke some old memories of my own, principally the relationship between Goldwater, his campaign and the Civil Rights Bill. I went took a look around and came up with this. It is not quite how I remember the events of the time, but it ties in somewhat.
Take a look, I would be interested in your thoughts.

Probligo, Thanks for the link and the reminder that speaking straight violates the laws of political advancement. Folks now a days want to be lied to, "Every thing will be fine" even when such a statement flies in the face of facts.
Here we are today, listening to a President and Congress tell us, "Every thin will be fine" when we know that spending money even our great grandchildren won't be able to pay is the wrong way to go about fixing the economy. So what will our fair voters do, they will elect these same liars into office because of the promise, "Every thing will be fine."
Bless Barry Goldwater for being the straight shooter he was, even when he shot his own foot, as the article mentioned. At least he was honest about anything he said; and that's a far cry from most in the political arena.
Thanks again for the link.

I noted on the way through that item about Goldwater - He was always a straight shooter, even when he was aiming at his foot.
