Gravatar Don, I agree that 'servant-leader' gives us something greater than it's parts but why servant? Surely the word that is missing is follower and leader-follower or follower-leader better describes all of us?

Gravatar Chris...Don asked that I post this for you:

Chris,

A great point. Greenleaf struggled with the word "servant" too. I think
he used it to point to the motives and deep identity of a leader rather
than to one of a leader's many roles--i.e., follower. A servant-leader
will also be a graceful follower. In his career at AT&T Greenleaf was a
follower far more often than a designated leader. "Follower" was, in
fact, his favorite role because it was a better platform for him to
practice the servant-leader skill of persuasion "without a club behind
my back."
