One possibility is to present to both sides a methodology and means for resolving the conflict.

If you can obtain buy-in from both camps that resolution of the conflict is essential for the long term benefit of all, you are more than halfway there.

If you are trained in mediation methods, you may take on the tasks of trying to get the parties to settle their differences as part of your job description. If not, a trained mediator can provide a valuable service.

You may wish to make your agreement to serve contingent on both sides agreeing to hire a mediator to help settle the conflict before you begin work.
