Very well stated and though I am not generally one for thinking deeply about "little" words, I do think the AS in, Servant AS Leader has some particular connotations. When we omit the AS...does it really have the same meaning?

Thanks for the comment. Greenleaf did substitute a hyphen between the words "servant" and "leader" instead of using "as," thereby fusing the two roles into one identity. But the real issue for him was keeping "servant" first, because the whole idea of this philosoophy is that one is a servant FIRST, not a leader first.
