Gravatar Two comments...I believe that even though we may not be in a job for very long...planting the seeds of servant leadership in fertile ground is possible and really what SL'ers should be attempting to do...you have to start somewhere! Second...great observation on society, my simplistic answer is that I hope we do get $6 a gallon for gas and we have to radically re-think our communities...how they are built etc...our lack of social interactions has made the pursuit of the almighty dollar that much easier...we don't have to look at a person's face when we downsize them and even if we do...we don't have a social connection or context to engage them with...

Gravatar Wayne,

Thanks for the comments. Seems like higher energy prices will drive us to rethink our ways. What would be nice however is that we start changing our ways before we have to. I like you idea on planting the seed also. I think that the patience of servant leadership can make it challenging, but in the long run what it is really about.

Gravatar White seems to be pointing to organic order. Organic order does not require the negating of our nature as humans. I believe the world was created with order, but not the order we use to keep our businesses and etc together. I would call that systems order. I suspect approaching organically ordered structures as a servant leader would look different from approaching systematically ordered communities. White seems to be headed toward this idea of organic order.

Gravatar Kaleb,

Thanks for the ideas on organic order. I don't know too much about it, but it sounds to me that it is a much more natural system than what we typically find in our communities. I think it is an order I would like.

Gravatar Tom,

I couldn't agree more with the sentiment you express. Together we can do something about it. Seeing healthy and unhealthy workplaces inspired me to write Fired Up or Burned Out. Also, my eyes were opened during my wife's battles with cancer(I wrote an Amazon Short about the experience entitled "Alone No Longer"). During that time I witnessed a great work environment at Memorial Sloan Cancer Center's Gynocological Cancer's Group where there was a strong sense of connection among management, individual contributors and patients. I'll send you a book, Tom, if you will share your reaction with the readers of this blog. Here's what others are saying about the book:

This is a very big idea. While it's simple, it's not easy to do, but
it's important. Hurry!"

Gravatar Tom,

I forgot to ask if you would take a look at my MichaelLeeStallard.com blog and consider adding it to your blog roll. My blog is another way that I'm doing what I can to help change the workplace.

Thank you for considering my request.

Michael

Gravatar Michael,

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts on the good and bad in our workplaces. No need to send me a book, too many books on the reading list and not enough time to read them, but I will keep yours in mind.

Your Blog looks interesting. As far as adding your blog to the blog roll, I would suggest you send an email to Trevor Hall by clicking the Contact link at the top right corner of the blog page. I'm just a guest blogger here, Trevor keeps up the page.
