Don't underestimate Mr. Quigley. If he gets high enough on the succession list, he might become mayor when indictments start to arrive (unless, of course, Mr. Quigley's legal entanglements continue to pile up in the meantime).

Besides, it is hard to quarrel with a nationwide search for talent.

new city job requirement: arrest record required

((crickets chirrpng))

We're sure that this is a ridiculous question, but we'll ask it anyway....

Does anyone know if this job was posted and open to outside applicants, or other internal applicants, that might have been more or better qualified than Mr. Quigley?

If it was, we seemed to have missed it....

Is Quiggly the one who built the illegal dock or the one with weapons in his house or the one who used city equipment and fill to build a parking pad or the one who wore Elect Jeff Koch tee shirts or the one who was intimidating voters or the one refilling his vehicle with city gas or the one who beat his wife? I get confused.

Gravatar Wow, think of all the cases of beer and fifths of Jim Beam Mr. Quigley can now purchase with that fat 71k salary!!!!

Gravatar I have to find out what brand of knee pads Mr. Quigley is using, mine just dont seem to be doing the trick

Gravatar You people don't understand Quigley, Ford, Zober and company are professionals who dedicate themselves to the betterment of our great city and are devoted to the wisdom and vision of our great Mayor. These are our heroes, our inspirational leaders who are guiding this great city to even greater greatness. Without the great vision of our great leaders like Ravenstahl-Quigley-Ford-Zober who could ever be able to do all the great things and expose all the corruption and machine politics of the old way of thinking. Unlike you, These are visionaries who are not satisfied with the status quo. That is why labor, the downtown corporate elite, Onorato and his fellow Democratic elected leaders and the Allegheny County Democratic Committee stand loyally behind our great leaders and all their greatness. You people are but the misinformed and the ignorant who wallow in your ignorance. Embrace the greatness of our great leaders and swallow it whole into your shallow abyss.

Gravatar Is assistant director in charge of properties a previously vacant position, or is it a new job title? And does it necessitate the assignment of a take-home vehicle under administrative policy? I am guessing it must.

Gravatar Never heard of this position before. Given the scope of responsibility of Public Works, this seems to be a very thin job description for someone with the title of Assistant Director...

Gravatar Does anyone know how many Assistant Directors / Deputy Directors / Assistant Chiefs the Department of Public Works has? This seems a little strange to all of a sudden promote/hire someone to a new position in the middle of a budget. Doesn't Council have to approve something like that? If not, why not create a whole bunch of new Assistant Directors after the Budget process and give all your friends promotions without any process.

Also, does anyone know if Quigley was one of the guys who lost their take home vehicle? Is this a way for him to get it back? This really smells bad (again) for the Ravenstahl Regime.

Gravatar what a pc of s#it.

Gravatar Under the legislation passed by council, it appears KQ's vehicle would have been among the casualties. Not sure if that necessarily translated after it was vetoed, and then adopted by the Mayor as administrative policy. Especially since for a time, the new policy hit public safety officials harder than intended.

Did that ever get resolved? There was a lot of PO'd public safety brass in council chambers on that one day.

Gravatar "great leader" the term used in North Korea to describe Kim Jung Iyl. Why does this remind me of the Republican "Change You Deserve" anti-depressant slogan?

Gravatar I believe the newspaper said that Public Safety management were allowed to take vehicles home, under that approved legislation. I believe Mr Quigley was singled out in the PG as driving a take home vehicle (a Chevy Avalanche or something equally large) 19,000 miles in the last reported year. The paper did not indicate whether this was his everyday work vehicle, or only the vehicle he drove home.

Gravatar "Does anyone know if this job was posted and open to outside applicants, or other internal applicants, that might have been more or better qualified than Mr. Quigley?"

I watch the job postings on the city jobs site and I never saw this job posted as far as I can remember. I think that Quigley deserves a good job in the department. He does a really good job with the public works.

Gravatar I have been absent from posting because...well, frankly you blog participants are intellectually superior and you make my brain hurt. The KQ situation is troubling. Keep in mind though that the norm in the burg has always seemed to be that if you commit a sin or crime if you just wait it out, REALLY GOOD THINGS HAPPEN to you. I do believe in rehabilitation for most offenders, however our experience has often shown us that when caught an offender does not have to show remorse, only outrage at having been caught. This behavior is one of the keys to success in local government. This, or laying low and eventually turning the tables on your accusers. The planning for that must really take a lot of energy. Everyone enjoy the day.
