Guess what, Lukey, the city is already being represented, BY THE PENGUINS LOYAL CITY FANS! We don't need you there.
By the way, buy your own ticket with your own charge card and pay it with your own salary and then save the receipt in case there is any question. Simple.

Is the mayor actually agonizing over how he will pay for tickets? Is he serious? Buck up and pay for them like everyone else.
People from Pittsburgh are thought to be tough and hard working, but this nancy-boy leader of ours is whining like a Flyers fan. Are you kidding?
And the bit about the banners leaves me feeling like he wants council to step knee-deep into their own honor-the-process arguments to demonstrate the absurdity of the sign beauracracy. Two months ago, he would have made sure the damn things went up without consultation, now he wants council to consider the matter?
What the mayor doesn't seem to realize is that this is the bed he made. Hopefully there are officially licensed Penguins sheets on that bed.

Luke needs to get Lamar's JV or the Oregon sign boys to spot him some tickets. No one will find out as long as Alecia can can control herself and not blog about it.

How will Luke get to Rock City? Homeland security SUV or a Ron Burkle jet?
If paying for the ticket yourself is a problem, Why not watch it here with the locals?

From the Trib:
Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said he was in favor of the Penguins banners, but he wanted City Council unanimous support before allowing them because of a moratorium City Council has placed on such advertisements.
Unanimous?

You guys keep me informed on what's happening in my old hometown...
Keep it up and don't let the bastards win.
BTW WTF is up with the 12-year-old mayor? Who elected that twerp?
Did they hold the election during a 'Stillers' game, so's only the ladies could vote?

Hey bloggers!!! You can always see the game for free on the jumbo-tron the Pens were nice enough to put up outside the CIVIC arena. But then again Opie would have to sit among the great unwashed.
TV at home is good too and the beer and hot dogs are a lot closer and a lot cheaper. (Thanks for inventing the $9.00 Beer Dano!)

"Mr. Ravenstahl said he believed 'one or two council members' were intent on 'making [a Penguins sign] a political issue.'"
This is the biggest load of political baloney I've seen in the two years I've been watching city politics.
First of all, the mayor withdrew the sign before he ever proposed it. Why? Because it was against the law, and presumably HE didn't want to be asking to break any laws at this point. But why not get a shot in at Council.
People are asking, "Doesn't Council have anything better to do?" Council was JUST SITTING THERE. Council was dealing with graffiti and stray animals and a million other things. The mayor was trying to make them find a loophole to put this sign up, and then the mayor spent the rest of his day using the impossibility of it to make council look bad. As political as it gets.
And Marty G bought it hook line and sinker because hey, why not get Pens fans hot and bothered about his show this morning. Not his problem if its all nonesense.
This sign could have gone up like that (snaps fingers) if Reebok or Nike or whomever was not advertising on them, but they were. If the signs went up, what exactly would stop every building owner Downtown from cashing in and turning their buildings into giant McDonalds ads tomorrow, or else suing the City for spot zoning?
Penguins fans -- have we never supported the Steelers, Penguins or Pirates in the past? Because we've never put up any of these signs before. Have we been bad sports fans all these years?
Marty G -- This isn't about council members wanting to be mayor. This is about the mayor thinking he's the king. Don't be such an easy mark.

I am betting Little Lukey and his posse will be rolling into Motor City Saturday afternoon, staying at a fly hotel downtown and attending the game in the luxury box of one Mr. Don Barden and friends on Saturday night. Everyone needs to do their Luke watch from Friday night to Monday morning - bet you won't find him in this old town.

Luke has emergency meeting with Council late Monday morning. He never introduces any bill to put up the banners on Tuesday morning. On Weenesday he has his cabana-boy Motznik call Marty Griffin and claim Council killed the sign. he then goes to the media and calls it all politics. Why?
Because, once again the Ravenstahl regime screwed up royally. They had weeks to work with the Penguins to get the deal done, but they never did it. Late last week, the Pens needed an answer and they didn't have one. The Pens laid into Luke, Yarone and the rest of the incompetents and they pleaded for just one more day to make it right. They couldn't even get it right with their extension granted. Time to find someone else to blame - blame that evil City Council.
Want proof - from today's PG - "Mr. Ravenstahl said he did not know whether the signs had been manufactured. Nor did Penguins spokesman Tom McMillan, who said the team had essentially given up on the idea of the banners by last weekend.
"We decided that it just wasn't practical," Mr. McMillan said."

Turns out Reebok couldn't make the signs fast enough and so the Penguins informed the Ravenstahl administration.
Instead of letting it go, Luke pretends that council killed it.
Unfortunately, there is evidence of the truth.

Luke after free stuff? Luke in it for himself? Nooo...couldn't be. This is what it's like when you have a Mayor who thinks that it's a cool gig because he gets lots of free stuff, like sporting tickets and golf outings. It's an embarrassment to the region.

Hey Matt H - don't be such a tool for Luke - it's not like you are Marty Griffin. Just because Luke says it is all Council's fault, don't go jumping to any conclusions. You have to remember, this kid lies every time he gets in a jam. Just cause some shock jock like Griffin gets his panties into a bunch whenever Luke whispers something into his ear, doesn't mean that you have to also.
Someday you will wake up and understand that Luke and his group of idiots are not helping the city you love - they are killing it. Stay away from the Kool-Aid with these types. As for Griffin, history shows he never learns - Luke will keep making him look like the moron that he is. Matt H, you are better than that. WAKE UP.

Why do these situations keep occurring? Is there any point to this unnecessary lying other than... I'm really trying, but can't find a point.
At very least this stupid bout of chest-thumping involves a popular sports team, so perhaps the average Pittsburgher will start to pay attention.

From what I heard, Motznik did NOT talk on the air to Marty G about the sign. Motznik didn't fuel that one bit, as described above. Marty G did try to bring up the subject and Motznik didn't bite, but passed on discussing it.
Furthermore, Bram, the Reebok logo does NOT make the sign advertising. Even without the sponsored logo, the sign is still advertising.
Bram may have posted above: "This sign could have gone up like that (snaps fingers) if Reebok or Nike or whomever was not advertising on them, but they were."
FWIW, don't you think that the Bruce Kraus authored "moratorium" is working like a charm????

The banner is not only a sign that is not a sign -- it doesn't even exist.
But why waste an opportunity to toss the Council under the bus.

My 18 year old son got in the lottery line, got lucky, bought two SRO tickets with his own money at $150 each. If he hadn't been lucky, he would be watching outside on the big screen. Luke, that's how real fans do it. It pains me to know that the SEA uses its ticket allotments on elected officials - like they don't have enough perks. Maybe the SEA should hold a lottery - sort of like the Packers do for their home games.
