Thanks for checking on the "Gloom, despair and agony on me..." skit; maybe it'll turn up somewhere later. That was one super picking group there from the Letterman show. Besides Earl Scruggs and Steve Martin, I recognized Vince Gill (guitar), Marty Stuart (mandolin), and Jerry Douglas, I believe (on dobro). Really good picking. Also that was a classic scene from the movie Deliverance; I remember being blown away by that when the movie first came out. It was based on a novel by poet James Dickey (not your usual poet--big guy, went hunting with a bow, etc.). Good post. Really enjoyable.
