Not to sound a "self-hating Semite - Why all three great Jewish religious holidays, Purim, Passover and Hanukah) are reminders of mass-killing of Gentiles at the hands of Isra'elites?
Thanks Allah - We Muslims don't celebrate the destruction of Roman Empire and Persian Empire at hands of our ancestors.
A very Happy Hanukah to both Mr. & Mrs. Atzmon - anyway.

NS; I don't celebrate any religious holidays, although I partake in the celebrations my family makes when they do. Here in Italy, a largely Catholic country, religious holidays are also national holidays, and for the sake of my child, we try to present the culture of the place she lives. If we lived in another country, we'd celebrate whatever the major holidays were there too.
All I can say about refusing religious ceremonies is this: if my child were a boy rather than a girl, I would have refused to have him circumcised. I guess that might be your question. The other days of feast and celebration have no bearing on my life.

Idiotic Shaukat,
The three major Jewish religious holidays are Passover, New Year's Day, and Feast of Weeks.
Passover is celebrated to remember the escape of the Jews from Egypt. New Year's Day marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year. And Feast of Weeks that is generally regarded as commemorative of the gift of the law on the fiftieth day after the departure from Egypt. Purim and Hanukah are not considered religious holidays.
We never celebrate the destruction of the Roman Empire because we never lie to ourselves as Muslims do, and it is the Romans who destroyed Judah. Nor did we destroy the Persian Empire, which was on good terms with the Jews.
As for the Muslims, or rather Arabs, they can celebrate the destruction of many nations and cultures, including the Persian Empire, raping and killing millions of human beings.
You, Shaukat, is the fruit of the Arabs' evil.

Ariella Atzmon:
This trust in the tribal/national God is common both to believers and to secular Jews. Otherwise why do secular and atheist Jews keep insisting on proclaiming their Jewishness?
This is unbelievable. It seems as thoug I was really unaware of being a believer in God like the rest of the Israeli atheists, and why? Because we are not willing to give up our tradition and become universalist as do the Hungarians, and the Italians, and the Japanese, and the Chinese, and the Arabs, and the rest of humanity.
Well, I think we are anything but religious.
And I thought to myself that deep down, most of the religious people know that God does not exist after all. And this woman comes and tell us that we are religous. What a joke.
This idea is one of many funny ideas expressed in this article by a woman who says that Aramaic
is ancient Hebrew: Yet most of them never pay attention to the message carried by these Aramaic (ancient Hebrew) words.
Just unbelievable. What an ignorant writer! Aramaic is not ancient Hebrew and they are entirely different languages.
Even Shauakat sounds better. At least, he knows that he's lying, whereas this woman is talking nonsense!
By the way, who is this woman!?

Shaukat, Mr. Atzmon is Non Judaist.
Ms. Rizzo, I thank for an answer very much.
Ms. Rizzo, You are the same as the Irving Berlin who made "White Christmas" though Christmas does not have interest.
Irving Berlin is Jewish.
Ms. Rizzo, I respect your thought.
Ms. Rizzo, I wish Chrismukkah is celebrated in "Real Palestinian State".

Howard also brought up her religion.
He's said in the past that if you leave out the Michelle in her name, Sara Gellar sounds like a Jewish name.
She said that she was born Jewish but she doesn't believe in any organized religion now.
She told Howard that her parents did have a Christmas tree when she was growing up but it wasn't to celebrate any religious holiday, it was just to have a pretty tree.

Dear Eurosabra, Relax! You are definitely right. Aramaic is not ancient Hebrew but still the Maoz Tzur text is a blend of 'archaic' ancient hebrew mixed with aramaic words (what is typical to 13th century texts of this kind).

Hey EuroSabra 4 sure you exploit God as a metaphysical insurance policy! You’re Identity is premised on the oxymoron of ‘Isreali Athiest’ one who disregards God but still imagines his citizenship is ordained by Him. Go sanctify yourself with yr secular candles

Zohra: You’re Identity is premised on the oxymoron of 'Isreali Athiest'
Your premise is based on a false idea that
'Isreali Athiest' is an oxymoron!?
Is 'German Athiest' an oxymoron!?
I don't disregard God, I just don't believe in Him: We the Jews invented him, you Christians and Muslims made him your God as well.
I believe that the Land of Israel belongs to the Israelis for historical reasons, and it would be superfluous to retell the story again.

ES:"I don't disregard God, I just don't believe in Him: We the Jews invented him, you Christians and Muslims made him your God as well."
What a statement here. You don't disregard something you invented, and you don't believe in.
"I believe that the Land of Israel belongs to the Israelis for historical reasons, and it would be superfluous to retell the story again."
The land Israel of today doesn't exist prior to the Balfour Declaration (and subsequent events which led to the creation of Israel). Before that, it was already inhabited by arabs, jews etc. in relative harmony. The injustices done to these locals in order to create Israel based by just your (and many others like you) claim of 'historic reasons' is just out of this world.
As an outsider, this is what I don't understand. How can you hope of having peace when Israel's very existence depend on these atrocities to survive? What atrocities? It would be superfluous to retell the story again. (Yes, it would be superfluous to recount those barbaric acts again. -Barbaric is an understatement).
A 'nation' build on corruption, evil and blood and sufferings of millions of others is only doomed to fail. Just like a company with no sound financial foundation. It will be declared bankrupt sooner or later. Everybody knows that. So how can something like this survive in the long run? Create bigger bloodsheds? If not in the region, then the whole world? A worldwide crisis? More sufferings on this world in place of better peace and prosperity for all.
There is a God and the Day of Reckoning will come where each one of us are witness to our own actions and be accountable for each one of them.
God will guide whom He wishes and leave them in pitch darkness whom He wishes. Pray that we are among those He guides.
Peace.

ES: Is 'German Athiest' an oxymoron!?
Zohra: Obviously not, to be German is to dwell on the land you organically came to be in; where as your citizenship is a forced identification with property rights stipulated in a Holy text.
We the Jews invented him (God)
Zohra Wow, your God's God, sorry I didn't realize who I was dealing with here...

Zohra,
Let us take a break from fighting and read a poem written by a Lebanese poet: After all, the current article contains some poems.
How heavy is the shame,
do I bear it alone?
Am I the only one to cover my face with ashes?
The funerals that the morning announces
echo in the funerals at dusk.
There is nothing over the horizon,
save for the smoke of black embers
