Nominated for Best Travel Blog 2009. Votes appreciated. Many Thanks!

You know I'm rooting for Kate Bush for best album and best female artist.

Tobe fair, Annie, the "vast majority of the British public" don't like him. It's just a few few teenage children and tired, but optimistic office workers that like him. 99 percent of us didn't buy his CD. Hell, 90 percent of us don't know who he is.
Sadly, the old bump on the head leads to random memory loss. If it was selective, I'd be wandering around going "Who's James Blunt? Oh, I'm beautiful am I? Thank you very much." Jon. Justice | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 3:44 am | #

Collin - thanks for that Kate Bush would also have my vote as the album is brill. She's also a perfect example of how to look great at 47 without resorting to strutting round in a purple leotard. Annie Mole | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 4:07 am | #

Jon - Firstly I didn't say vast majority of the British public, but never mind (must be that bump to your head) . OK lets look at James Blunt's album sales - 4 million sold by February 2004 (must be a lot more than that now) - we generally know that teenagers don't make up the majority of the album sales charts:

Don't like him, he has the same whiney voice/music as that horrible Coldplay. Whilst I am utterly disturbed that some big a pile of pish as Shayne's single can be nominated for best single (how????), Blunt shouldn't win it either.
I'm no popfan but Sugababes' song was outstanding too. But I am gutted my favourite "Dare" by Gorillaz is not up for best single. That single is a cracker. Genius!
But everyone's allowed their taste, and if you like Blunt, fair enough, I wish he'd just go back to the army. Or join Coldplay so I'd only have one band to avoid. *grins* Carina | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 6:49 am | #

Nice one Carina
I too was amazed to see X-Factor winner - Shayne in the nominations here, and I spose that's because they have to satisfy the fact that a lot of singles are bought by teenagers. I cannot remember the last time I bought a CD single.
Me and Neil watched X Factor avidly and it was interesting that one of the finalists - Maria - actually did a cover of You're Beautiful on the show !!! I thought her version was pants (as she screamed and shouted the song out rather like Lulu doing Shout) but the audience loved it.
Incidentally I do actually like Sugababes' "Push the Button" but Blunt would get my vote over that. Annie Mole | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 6:58 am | #

I don't see the fuss, but neither do I get the hatred when there's Coldplay still around. So while I don't hate James, he's last on my list for the breakthrough acts category. I've quite liked all the other options there and I'm just neutral to his stuff. (Yes it's sitting on my computer, and yes I did play it a couple of times...)
And those are the options for best British single? Oh god we're in trouble... Chz | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 9:28 am | #

I think you know my opinion of James Blunt. It's good to see K T Tunstall nominated. She also did a song about the underground, in fact it was about my local station - Blackhorse Road and The Cherry Tree. Woooo hooo, Woooo hoooooo. IanD | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 9:29 am | #

It doesn't seem to say it's an award for Best british single. It just seems to be a Brit Award for a british single. Quality apparently has nothing to do with it. Ian | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 10:13 am | #

Oh, the Sugerbabes to win, surely?
And I'd like every whiny band who gives indie music and/or guitars a bad name (and, yes, I'm talking about you Coldplay and James Blunt and Travis and Keane) mushed up into one single band and shot to Mars. And they can take bloody Westlife with them as well. Mags | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 10:23 am | #

Actually did anyone see the pretty cool letter in Metro today asking why Paul Weller is getting a "lifetime achievement" award for Outstanding Contribution to Music when "since going solo in 1991 he has been in the charts for just 58 weeks"
I have mixed feelings toward's Weller's award. Obviously he deserves something for The Jam - we wouldn't have had Going Underground (I was so pleased to see some Tube buskers playing this on the Tube) and the tube spoof version of the song
IMO Style Council were brill too and made sense to me. However I hated Wildwood & other stuff like Stanley Road but I quite like and have actually bought his latest album "As Is Now" where he seems to have gone back to what I consider "good". Annie Mole | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 11:37 am | #

Annie - but the whole point of the letter was to get Barbara Streisand the life time achievment award wasn't it?! *lol* Fimb | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 1:42 pm | #

It was Shirley Bassey actually as Streisand is not a Brit Annie Mole | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 2:27 pm | #

"It's just a few few tired, but optimistic office workers that like him."
Well, my girlfriend falls into that category, and can't stand the bloke. And to Annie - I don't find him particularly attractive either. (Oh, and take a look at the nominations for Best International Album: U2's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is nominated. Just like it was last year. I would love Shirley Bassey to win a lifetime achievement award if only for her to not turn up and we have Matt Lucas doing his Rock Profile impression of her (see the picture on the far right with David Walliams as Tom Jones).

I like the lyrics of You're Beautiful, no doubt about it. Haven't we all felt the same at some point?

Hey Annie, if you read the metro letters page you must have seen my letter too!!!!
I watched x-factor religiously too (but recorded it after watching SCD first) and absolutely didn't like Maria's version. To me it was a bad version of a bad song
I preferred someone else on that show though. And it's obvious it was not Shayne lol.
But yeah, quality seems to have gone out the window. Dare by Gorillaz SHOULD definitely have been nominated! Carina | Email | Homepage | 12.01.06 - 6:58 pm | #

Carina, I've seen one of your letters in Metro too, but it wasn't one of the Costa Coffee ones. It was a while ago now and was rather less light-hearted! Anthony | Email | Homepage | 13.01.06 - 3:56 am | #

Anthony. Yep, that was indeed me too. A rather serious subject and may I add they heavily edited it to shorten it. Could've filled a whole page otherwise Carina | Email | Homepage | 13.01.06 - 7:05 am | #

Annie, my other letter was on the subject of that student girl who was raped in the corridor before her dorms door by a guard who was asked to walk her home as she was drunk.
Nuff said, I don't want to go into it again, but it wasn't a very nice letter about the guard. Carina | Email | Homepage | 14.01.06 - 12:10 am | #

Memorable surname???? Eh???? Surely it's just a normal surname? Carina | Email | Homepage | 14.01.06 - 8:51 am | #

The "k" is surplus to requirements!
Of course it's perfectly normal, but not as normal as "Smith". What a rubbish surname! Anthony | Email | Homepage | 14.01.06 - 12:59 pm | #

Tell me about the K lol... Back home, the normal spelling ends in "ks". In Belgium where I did secondary school, normal spelling is "ckx". Over here, normal spelling is "ix".
I never have the normal one... sorry! Carina | Email | Homepage | 14.01.06 - 2:08 pm | #

I've written two letters to Metro and not one has been printed. Anyone notice how Steve Ainger from SE23 gets a letter in about every week?
The best single is Speed Of Sound and that should win. If not, I'd settle for You're Beautiful as long as none of the others win it. However, the act I abhor most is actually the Sugababes. I hate the song and them with a passion, and will never recover from them winning the Best Dance category at the 2003 Brits. It was a travesty - they aren't anything approaching dance.
Having said that, Heidi is hot. Adham | Email | Homepage | 21.01.06 - 12:47 am | #
