6 is Paddington.

1 is Liverpool Street.
8 is St. John's Wood (I think)
I'm tempted to say 11 is Mile End.

Oh, sorry and I think 9 is Lambeth North.

I think 2 might be Waterloo?

11 is Harrow on the Hill;

1. Liverpool street
2. Waterloo
9. Lambeth North

12 is Kennington.

4 might be Goldhawk Road?

I think 10 is Preston Road and 8 maybe Regents Park? Is 2 Barbican?

#4 is absolutely Goldhawk Road. I get coffee at the Bush Garden cafe every morning before heading up there.

Best guesses:

1: Liverpool St.
2: Waterloo
3: Walthamstow Central
4: Shepherd's Bush
5: Rotherhithe
6: Paddington
7: Leytonstone
8: Can't place it for the life of me.
9: Lambeth North
10: Kingsbury
11: Harrow on the Hill
12: Kennington

2 and 6 are indeed Waterloo and Paddington, respectively.

1 is Liverpool St, 2 is possibly Tower Hill. I recognise about three or four of the others, but I have no idea.

Damn good quiz!

3 Walfemstow back exit by the taxi rank
5 Leyton??
6 Paddington - always thought that exit was a bit wierd
7 Leytonstone - you can see one of the famous 'murals' to the right of the entrance
12 Kennington

Number 8 could possibly be Hounslow Central...

Chz, I think you're right about 10... I had it narrowed down to Preston Road or Kingsbury, but looking at it again, I'm pretty certain it is Kingsbury.

I can tell you for sure that 8 is NOT St Johns Wood nor is it Regent's Park (which has no surface building)

My for sures-

2 - Waterloo
5- Westbourne Park
6- Paddington
8- Hounslow central

I think #8 is Ravenscourt Park

No correct that to Hounslow central.

Is number 2 Moorgate? Looks like you can see the second level walkway things of the Barbican complex in it. Number 1 looks like Borough, but not sure.

This is harder than the last one! The one I'm most certain of is no. 7, followed closely by no. 11.

2. Looks like Lancaster Gate but I'm sure there's not a footbridge there as I can't think of anywhere for it to go.
3. New Cross Gate
4. Goldhawk Road
6. Regents Park? (A guess based on Regents Park being somewhere W2-ish and not having any surface buildings)
7. Leytonstone
8. Bow Road
11. Surrey Quays

Having looked at other people's comments now...

I think Chz is right about no. 5 being Rotherhithe, which is slightly embarrassing as it's my second-nearest station and I've taken photos in and around there at least twice (on my Flickr - photos/kake_pugh). I live to the south of it though so I rarely see it from that angle!

1 - London Bridge (guess)
2 - Waterloo
3 - Tottenham Hale
4 - Goldhawk Road
5 - Bow Road (guess)
6 - Paddington
7 - Leytonstone
8 - West Ruislip (guess)
9 - Caledonian Road
10 - Stanmore
11 - Hatton Cross (guess [bad])
12 - Kennington

11 is def harrow on the hill and 4 is kilburn (jubilee), ive worked at both!

2 is def waterloo

1 Liverpool St
2 Barbican
6 Paddington

Those are my only guesses; in my defence I only ever visit London a couple of times a year.

1 is Liverpool Street, a colleague has mentioned the pub before

Erm 2 looks like Waterloo, possibly Jubilee Line entrance?

4 random guess at Shepherds Bush because of the the Bush Garden cafe :D

Well 6 is deffo Paddington, seeing as I work there.

Hmmm. A few of these are guesses, some of them very uncertain guesses indeed (number 3 especially is really stumping me. I think I’m certain about seven of them, though..

1 Liverpool Street, 2 Stockwell, 3 Chorleywood, 4 South Harrow, 5 Putney Bridge, 6 Paddington, 7 Leytonstone, 8 Hounslow Central, 9 Lambeth North, 10 Canons Park, 11 Harrow-on-the-Hill, 12 Kennington

Well, now having seen other people's guesses, I now think I'm certain about, not seven, but six of them... (I withdraw South Harrow as no 4 and replace it by something more central mentioned above already...)

I haven't a clue which station each of these are, but I just love the diversity of them all.

As an American who was born in London, but now lives many miles away, I am fascinated by just how these tube entrances have, in many cases, been carved into building facades that one wouldn't think would lead to an urban transit line.

Some look like they could have been a bank (pic 1), a pub (pic , or a public lavatory (pic 7), or a subway crossing (using the British term) (pic 6), or a post office (pic 3 and 5).

I'd love to know the history behind each of these, particularly the older ones that seem to have a story to tell (as opposed to the "newer" modern ones (pic 2), that seem devoid of character.

Nice observation Daniel

There are a number of books about the history of Tube Station architecture (including the red brick ones by Leslie Green) published by Capital Transport - they go right up to the present day. I have a book by Laurence Menear called London's Underground Stations - A social & architectural study, full of lovely old line drawings of the stations.

Would that be "LondonŽs underground stations : a social and architectual study"?

Yes - I don't think it's in print any longer - originally published in 1983 by Midas - so you're likely only to find it through abe-books - see the link above, or ebay, or z-shops in Amazon.

2 Waterloo
4 South Ruislip
5 Rotherhithe (wild guess)
9 Lambert North (bit of a wild guess)
10 Stanmore
111 Harrow-on-the Hill

4 is definately Goldhawk Road and 8 is definately Hounslow Central cos I've used both regularly.... the rest need some thought

4 is not goldhawk road. It is Gold Hawk Road, according to the canopy.

4 Golders Green (I think)
5 Rotherhithe
6 Warwick Avenue
