Cool contest!
We live in a hot climate, so heat is a major issue!
We:
-avoid going out during peak sun hours
-hang out at the beach (with our sunshade, of course!)
-go to the wading pool/splash park
-eat cold fruits and veggies (we give them to DD in her mesh feeder)
-make mommy milk popsicles for DD to suck on as a treat

We live in an area where the heat is really dry and stale. On the days it's super hot we do these things to beat the scorching sun:
- Play in a cool bath and DS gets to hang out in his diaper to cool off
- Hang out in our basement, playing tickle me games until the sun relaxes a bit
- Go for a walk to our local mall. Gotta make use of all that AC!
- Give DS some frozen breast milk in his mesh feeder! YUM!
- GO to our local swimming pool!
- And drink lots of water (well, Mama does anyways!)

Making yummy popsicles! Apple juice, or yogurt smoothies, in the star pop mold.
We also eat a lot more ice cream than we should.
A new sprinkler for the backyard.
And for the toddler, hot weather means clothing optional! Mama, not quite so brave.

We live 15 miles out of town, so don't make the drive all that often. Instead, we turn on the garden hose for the older kids and overflow the water table for the younger!
I blend us some fresh, frozen fruit smoothies and at the end of the day it's into the bath and cuddling and watching a movie in the A/C.

Well, not really that hot here...but, we:
-keep the blinds closed during the day
-go walking near the water (nice and breezy)
-splash around (mom & tot, kiddie pool)
-DD spends quite a bit of time in just a diaper (or naked!)
love the idea of mom's milk pops!

How do I beat the heat?
We stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, we live in Texas so its ALL day! We go out and play under the trees, drink LOTS of ICE cold water. We love to play in the sprinklers and water hoses. We go for rides in the car with the windows down! FEEL THE WIND!! We go to the park and swing HIGH AS WE CAN! My oldest son loves to lay on the nice cool wood floors and we play with playdo and color. We eat cold fruits to cool us off and chase the ice cream truck!

We head over to the park with the sprinklers, strip the boy down to his diaper and BSWW, and watch him run through the water with reckless abandon. I don't even have to get wet, because it's so much cooler in the shade, next to the water spray!

HOw do we beat the heat? Well, we have no AC at our house, we depend on wind. During the day I take the kids to the indoor pool for an hour or so. Then we walk to mall until they fall asleep in the stroller.
We make smoothies with fresh fruit and ice. The kids pick their own combo each time. It's healthy and refreshing!

We try to beat the heat by focusing our outdoor time on places with water
We will put a little fresh water out for the birds, wild bunnies and other critters in our yard, who aren't so lucky to be able to escape into air conditioning.
We love making juice popsicles and eating cold watermelon
If we are cooking/baking, we try to cook and bake everything all at once to not heat up the house too much.
We try to remember that the heat of summer also brings wonderful things like fresh veggies from our garden, trips to the beach, lightning bugs and flowers!

Currently in the process of going cloth so this would be a fabulous way to start!
To beat the heat we:
- sing in front of the fans
- drink LOTS of water(ice water for mama, and water with fresh lemon for the toddler who always wants juice - LOVES it)
- wee ones gnaw on frozen mini bagels
- eat (& grill) as much raw organic fruit and veggies we can for meals to avoid using the stove
- water each other as we water the flowers

I live in AZ and... the days arent so so bad... but at night I cant stand it. I fill up an ice pack and put it in my pillow case. It stays cold all night long. Since my head is staying cool I stay cool all night!
When we were kids... my brother and I use to hang wet sheets in the windows of our bedrooms and open the windows... you know... home-made swamp coolers... (thats the ghetto way of staying cool)
Thanks for this cute contest!!

How my toddlers and I beat the heat...
We move the toddler slide so that it leads into the kiddie pool!
We play on the side of the house where the shade is hiding!
We go inside during the hottest part of the day and have a picnic lunch on the nice cool tile!
We watch movies with snow in them!
We eat watermelon and have "seed spitting" contests.
We sit in front of the fan and take turns saying funny sounding things through the back.
We name every cold thing we can think of.
We build a "fort" out of white sheets and pretend it's an igloo.
We put popsicle sticks in the ice cube tray and then see who can lick their "ice pop" down to nothing first.
We take my largest plastic bowl, filled halfway with water, and add some ice and some boats and play "iceburg".

My husband, our 4-month old twins and I go to the bookstore, where we drink iced coffee, read books, and nurse in relative comfort. We also go to "Mommy & me" movies, visit friends who have air-conditioning, and go for walks on the beach. Oh - and sit in front of the fan with a spray-bottle full of water, spraying it into the fan and letting the cool mist blow back over us.

When we are trying to beat the heat and keep cool my kids and I like to change into our swim suits and run a tub full of cool water. The kids get to sit in the tub and splash and eat popsicles and I don't have to worry about the mess or them getting sunburns. I let the kids have spray bottles in the tub and they have a blast spraying each other and me too. And we have soap bath crayons so they come out a little cleaner than they went in, yeah!

Fun contest~
What do we do to beat the heat?
Our #1 way to beat the heat is to play all sorts of water games in the backyard. This includes "sprinkler freeze tag", fire brigade, don't spill the water, and "splash". All are very simple and encourage positive interactions with your kids. Highly recommended! We always follow the games up with a homemade ice pop! Yum!

We turn the sprinklers on and run through them, make ice-cold homemade lemonade and ice cream (we also buy ice cream from the ice cream truck), and we lounge in very very light cotton clothing in front of a heavy duty fan. We spend time indoors, but since we're cooped up all winter through March, we try to get outside more. We keep water bottles in the fridge, buy freeze pops by the case at the dollar store or Aldi. We've been making juice pops a lot (IKEA has great pop molds for cheap). The sprinkler is a huge cool-off, as is the neighbor's kiddy pool. We also have a few church friends with backyard pools. When it gets just unbearable, we suggest a fellowship/Bible study/pool party!

Great giveaway! I'd love to win this for my new babe on the way!
My tips for staying cool...
-excursions to the library, the play area in our mall, the children's museum, and the aquarium: all air conditioned!
-I open our blinds for early-morning sun, then close them at lunch so that the house cools off during the hottest part of the afternoon (it makes everything more restful for naptime, too!)
-we do a lot of water play, in the baby pool in the shade of our backyard or even in the bathtub!

Get everything done for the day between the hours of 5am and 11am - shopping, cleaning, laundry, etc
Have a stack of damp washclothes in the freezer. Keep until crunchy frozen - when it is really hot, take one out and place on your head
Most importantly - stay hydrated !

Homemade iced tea as my American husband can't handle the powdered sugar kind and I'm now hooked on the real brew tea. Much better for beating the heat - and just add a splash of lemon for zip!

When it's so hot and sunny that even letting my toddler play with water toys outside seems miserable, I can let him play in the bathtub and he seems pretty happy. Our public library here is always cool and has a ton of toys, too, so that's a good option. Also, even though it means leaving the car to get really hot, going to the grocery store and getting some shopping done is a good idea! Thanks!

On hot summer days we fill up the kiddie pool, which my kiddos adore. We also love going to the beach and hanging out at the waters edge. My 3 year old daughter loves ice pops (either homemade or favor ice) and I love the idea of frozen mommie milk pops! I can't wait to try it with me little guy, he will love it

Like many others, I couldn't enter because it wouldn't accept my postal code! I would love to win as we want to use cloth diapers for our next baby!
To stay cool, we keep all the curtains closed during the day. We also spend most of our day in the kiddie pool outside Eating homemade fruit pops. I add yogurt so they're really smooth and refreshing.

We beat the heat by:
-Having water balloon fights, though my toddler isn't QUITE strong enough or coordinated enough to launch them and hit someone She still loves the action and fun!
-Taking trips to the local water park! The lazy river is perfect for relaxing, while the water slides and wave pool provide some fun!!
- Going to this little secluded beach near our house that not many people know about. It's clean and not alot of people means Mama can swim without being TOO self conscious about wearing a bathing suit!
- If all else fails we pack up and head to Nana and Papa's (a mere three miles away) to soak up their company, and er...air conditioning

I tried to take the survey and it said I've already taken it...hmmm...pretty sure I haven't. So here's my answer: We stay inside when the heat is too bad and when we do venture outside we bring lots of popsicles and turn on the hose to spray our flowers and each other.

I put a wet washcloth in the freezer, once it's frozen I put it on my forehead or neck, it's such a relief!
Also we love to make smoothies with ice, strawberries, bananas, vanilla ice cream and milk. So tasty!
I tried to enter through the form but it wouldn't accept my Canadian postal code!

We wet a wash cloth, and then wipe it on our sin while sitting in front of the fan. As long as the cloth is wet, it always feels cool. Gotta beat the no a/c thing somehow.
I also tried to enter, and it didn't accept my Canadian Postal Code as well.

Water!!!
Water in the kiddie pool,
in balloons,
from the hose into buckets for carrying and filling bigger buckets (my toddler loves this),
from the sprinkler,
colored ice cubes for melting together or transfering with spoons,
giant ice cubes (made with water, ice cubes, toys, and food coloring in a large yogurt container works well) for excavating/treasure hunting,
giant ice cubes for squirting with colored water in squirt guns/spray bottles,
Plastic (or real) ice cubes for the pool,
Letting small children water plants,
Playing in the occasional mud puddle that has occured from all the water play,
and finishing off the day with fruit smoothies or ice cream cup cakes:
Make cupcake batter and place 1 Tbs into each greased cupcake hole.
Bake a few minutes less than normal (about and cool 10 minutes.
Add a scoop of icecream and icing and freeze for an hour! Delicious!

We keep the house "closed down" in the daytime and open it up at night. We also make our own "swamp cooler". Just stick a bowl of ice in front of your fan for some cool mist as the ice melts. Works great and is very old fashioned!

My advice to beat the heat:
1. I love the crushed ice feature on our fridge-- make yourself a big cup and head outside.
2. Spray bottle full of cold water---the kids love to squirt YOU and each other-- this is a great way to cool down!
3. Ice Cream Man-- I am a sucker for them-- snow cones get me everytime...the kids don't mind either!!
Thank you for the chance to win!!!

To beat the heat!? We stay indoors to play games & such after lunch/before dinner. We don't go out unless it's absolutely necessary during those peak-heat hours! I love swinging by the store with the kids after dinner & grabbing a box of Drumsticks & taking them to the park to have a cold, sweet treat & then play during the enjoyable part of the day!

Living in Florida, we GOT to beat the heat!
1. We color with finger paints outside Not only do we avoid a mess indoors, but when we are done we can play with the water hose!
2. Go to the pool
3. We make our own ice cream! Coffee can ice cream is so easy and the kiddo loves to roll it around.
4. Go see movies. Air conditioning can be nice sometimes.
5. Go to the library. Not only is it educational, but it is nice and cool and lots of comfy chairs!
6. Start biking everywhere. Yes, it is exercise, but it feels great going downhill with the kiddo on the bike and saying "wheeee!" Uphill? Not so much fun...
7. I let my son fill up the ice trays. He likes to do it, and then we use the ice later for a nice cool drink.
8. Instead of heading indoors during the rain, we go outside and play in it! It is so hot here that it's like a warm shower.

It feels even hotter than it really is since I'm pregnant.
I take ice and put it on the floor (or I spill a bit of ice cold water) and I stand in it or sit and put my feet in it. Something about having my feet cold helps me be cool all over.
And then I clean up the mess.

We go for walks and run our errands in the cool morning, then we stay indoors through the heat. We cook quick and simple meals and we run our dishwasher at night. Somedays we grill out by the pool to stay cool. Fresh lemonade and icy cold fruit are always a nice cool treat too!

I apologize if I have already done this; I'm not trying to get an additional entry. I could have sworn that I entered, but I have not been able to find my comment.
We have AC. I try not to run it too high, though, and if it gets cool at night, we open the windows.
I keep all the blinds closed during the day to keep out the sun.
Use lots of fans.
Wear cotton clothes.
Drink smoothies and eat lots of cool, fresh fruit.
Ice water with lemon.
Go to a friend's house to share their pool!

My favorite way to beat the heat is to play at splash parks, or to visit the (indoors) Nature and Science Museum.
A quick cool treat to help beat the heat includes sliced grapefruit, cherries, and blueberries. Dish into a pretty glass and cover with chilled sparkling white grape juice. It's absolutely refreshing.

I beat the heat by wearing 100% cotton and by keeping my 3 1/2 feet of hair clipped up off my back and neck. And by playing "How long can I go without using the oven?" My record is 15 days.

I live in the Adironacks, which are beautiful and full of fun things to do in the summer. So when the mercury soars, i beat the summer heat by remembering how SHORT our summer season is and how i looked forward to the warmth all winter-long! Also unsure if my comment/entry went through...
My favorite way to beat the heat is by running through the sprinkler - what other way can someone of any age feel so young! If the water doesn't cool you off, then visiting an air-conditioned exhibit at the zoo, art museum or history museum is sure to be cool and educational.

We: stay inside (I have an infant only) during the hottest part of the day. My babe LOVES being outside, so when it's reaching 100, we walk early in the morning before it heats up, or in the evening as thr sun is going down. We wear LOTs of sunscreen and head on over to our community pool. Drew's only 7 months, but he LOVES to "swim" (aka splash and kick like while I hold him) like a little fish. Speaking of fish, when its just WAY too hot to head outside, we go to the aquarium

I would love to try cloth diapers, but my husband is iffy about it, so this would work well to test them.
To beat the heat, we go to Target since they have A/C and we don't. At home, our toddler just wears a diaper (which is also nice because it cuts back on laundry). ANd we drink lots of lemonade (or limeade..yum!)
