Gravatar gr8 post john...er, I mean, a most excellent and thought-provoking post, John!

You are wise to rise above the mediocrity of our age. I hope your words of admonition will be remembered for many generations!

Sign me up for the iDot craze!

Gravatar I've meant to respond for a while, but I haven't had time.

Good points... but what about me? I'm so slow at texting, even with T9, that if I took the time to spell out every word it would take forever. What a problem to have, though. We have it so soft these days!

In response to your question about a week ago -- no, it doesn't look like I'm going to make it to the Academy. I'm taking off a week in February for a Teenpact class (teenpact.com), and it doesn't look like I'll have the time anyway!

Oh, and thanks for the introduction to Straight No Chaser -- I have found my new favorite a cappella group! ("12 Days" is especially appropriate since my last name is Partridge.) There's another one out there called Rescue, but I can't seem to find anything out about them online. Their version of "Mary Did You Know" is incredible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V...h? v=VGxLSeSxH9I

Enough of me. Enjoy the festival -- whether you make it or not, it is really impressive that you've made it so far. (The clips I've seen look gorgeous, by the way. Go RED!)

Gravatar Maybe I should wait and compose a more thought out response....However....I think I'll just use enough dots....to annoy you for now.
...
I drive people crazy by sending spelled out txts with ridiculously long words and punctuation in them.....
....I even use too many dots.
wow.

Gravatar This is so true. Thank you for braving the world of abbreviators and sharing what no one else seems to notice. :]

Gravatar You're so right about this John. People think that texting language won't affect their communication skills but just look at where the words go now. They're losing their vowels and consonants might just follow soon.

Gravatar Brilliant, you know?

*smirk*

Gravatar Abbreviation, poor grammar, horrible spelling, and atrocious capitalization all irritate me when used online or in emails. I have never texted, but I would probably use full words and capitalization if I did.

Gravatar You spelled "Unnecessary", and "Punctuate" incorrectly.

Gravatar Thanks Cory! Evidence that I don't use spell check, and type too many blog posts at 4 AM.

Gravatar Ironically I read an article this morning in some kind of vacation website where the person was very lacking in the correct usage of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. I think he abbreviated some words as well.

Gravatar What a breath of fresh air your article is. The "modern" conveniences of communication have been quite annoying to me. I don't appreciate all the abreviations in writing or in the spoken conversations either. So many "educated" people sound very illiterate. I really appreciate your article and will link to it on my blog. Thank you.

Gravatar Excellent post!

I have never been a big fan of the new modern way of communicating in poorly thought out sentences with poorly thought out words, no punctuation, and improper spelling. Even so, when I moved into the professional world it became even more apparent how critical the principles you have put forth in this post are! I have learned to triple check my emails, and even my text messages!

And the video was great! Amazing how his tone and deportment changed when he spoke clearly and concisely toward the end!

Gravatar Great post! Although I don't always punctuate or spell or capitalize correctly, it is something that I focus on doing, for it is irritating when others disregard the grammatical rules! Firefox web browser has a built-in spell check that helps me immensely.

Gravatar Hello John! I enjoyed your post and understand your frustration!

Gravatar Great post! I've always been a stickler for punctuation (got it from my mother) and lazy punctuation always bothers me.

I'm going to link this to my blog, if that's okay.

Gravatar I love your blog message, John, and so enjoyed the u-tube video. I tell my children to forget abbreviating in e-mails to me and I just can't seem to "do" texting so I'm somewhat immune to all that. There are few excuses for sloppy writing -- I'm glad you agree! What is 'i-dot'? I need to be educated.

Gravatar Mrs. Morecraft:

Thanks for the comment! iDot was a joke in reference to iPod's and iMac's, and all those varieties of Apple products. After making a comment about dotting your digital 'i's, it seemed appropriate to say 'iDot'. A simple, silly pun. :-D

Sorry for the confusion!

~ In Christ, John.

Gravatar That was great John! Thanks for posting the video.

Gravatar Thanks for the post. I can totally understand your frustration - especially with texts. I have a few friends whom I have a hard time understanding what their texts say sometimes. I do however, understand abbreviating texts when they are long ones, because it saves space and helps you not have to send more than one text when you are on certain plans that give you only a certain amount of texts each month. That is the only time when I understand.

Gravatar Amen, Mr. Moore!
I love it!
My brother and I have talked about this many times before. Being involved with online forums, I see posts that make me wish I had the edit option to completely re-write them!

On the small, Christian writing forum that I am an administrator on, I try to uphold my standards of spelling and proper sentence structure. Fortunately, on that forum, the other members share my feelings, so I don't need to worry about it much.

However, in other places, instances of 'r,' and 'u,' and 'cuz,' in digital communication kind of grate on me...

Great video as well, I added it to my YouTube favorites. Like someone said above, his tone and voice change at the end was great! He demonstrated both ways of speaking perfectly!

Thanks! I can think of a lot of people I could send this to.

Gravatar Hi John
I found this post through the 'Maidens of Worth' blog. I agree completely with what you are saying about abbreviating words down to vowelless text. However, on watching the YouTube video I was a little offended because it is a natural speech patter of Australians to end sentences with an upward turn in our tone. While we generally don't speak like uneducated skibunnies, we do this naturally. I don't use text much at all and when I do I abbreviate as much as possible because it costs less to use less letters. That's my reasons.
Great post!

Gravatar I found this post extremely helpful, and even comforting. I am one of the few people who simply cannot make myself abbreviate words, even if I am limited to a certain number of characters or numbers. Thank you for your voice of wisdom in an age of incoherence.

I also had a question: would you consider letting me republish this article (giving you complete rights and credit, and a link back to your site) at a new Webzine called Cross-Eyed blog and webzine.
Visit here: http://crosseyedblog.com

Please email me if you are up for it. I would love to have our readers see this. Thanks!

God bless,
Kaysie

Gravatar Kaysie,

Thanks ever so much for the feedback. Very encouraging!

Certainly, feel free to publish wherever, and a link back to the HeuMoore blog would be fantastic. Again, thanks!

~ In Christ, John.

Gravatar Hey John,
I'm with Cross-Eyed Blog and Webzine. I would like to shoot you some information to look over. (Writers agreement, etc). Could you send me your email at mail@crosseyedblog.com?

Thanks,
Eric Novak

Gravatar That is a great post John. As a Communication major I absolutely agree with the need to communicate clearly. I am appalled at some of the things I see and read. Though I must admit I have become quite the texter and have been guilty of some bad English of my own. This post was a good reminder to keep using real English in all of my communication. And the video was great too.

Gravatar Hi! In your passage about text-crafting, you spelled "fervor" wrong, but aside from that I enjoyed your comments very much. Thank you!
