That has to be one of the worst analogies I've ever read. A true progressive would have said if the friend really wanted to do better in school, the daughter would have devoted some of her time and effort into tutoring the girl. The problem is not having and not wanting to give, but having the ability to help and not using it to help.

That's assuming the girl wanted tutoring and would be willing to do her part and work for her grades too. This doesn't seem likely as the girl is taking easy classes, not studying and partying. Why should someone who is working her butt off to do well in school and has very little free time help someone who would not appreciate it and wouldn't do anything to help herself? It seems she has the same opportunity as the other girl she just doesn't want to work as it interfers with her partying and popularity.

Great analogy for someone that would probably not get it any other way... but you missed one point. The professor would go to her and say that he is "taking" one point of her GPA to give to the other girl whether she liked it or not.
