Gravatar I can't help but chuckle at Rob Briley, of all people, hounding you about your personal opinion of the appropriateness of adultery. I think you did as well as possible in answering him, all things considered. I don't think I would have been able to be quite as charitable as you were.

Gravatar Rep--just saw this video and could not believe it. Briley is a total lunatic who couldn't find his own rear end with both hands and a search warrant.

All your bill wants to do is identify the real father of a child and have that person pay the child support.

How in the name of sanity Briley thinks you are trying to "punish the child" in this way is beyond me.

The guy must be suffering some sort of post traumatic stress from booze and brushes with the law. Personally, I think he has totally lost it.

Gravatar I just read the article in the Tennessean about this video so of course I had to go watch it. Could Rep. Briley be a bigger donkey's butt! You can see it on his face, he didn't care about the merits of this bill, he just wanted to take a few digs at you.

Gravatar The fundamental problem with Briley's argument is that the pre-marital sex or adultery occured between the mother and a third party. In that sense, the husband is the injured party.

This is a very difficult issue. There seems to me to be a very strong public policy issue to prevent a parent from denying parenthood for a child born in wedlock and thus making a bastard out of him. There is also public policy considerations in having children supported financially from the more capable members of their "families." The difficulty is that child support is often not used for the best interest of the child. It seems moral repugnant to allow a former spouse to benefit from her own deceit.

Campfield is right. The real issue is the best interest of the child. That's a devil to determine.

Gravatar I'm not a Tennessee lawyer, but I did some quick research.

n re T.K.Y., 205 S.W.3d 343 (Tenn. 2006)

states that a Biological Father can be made the Legal Father and only the legal father pays child support.

Am I wrong?

Gravatar Your presentation was very good...Briley was outdone!

Gravatar Possible pickled brain aside, Briley's rant is typical of liberal "thinking": The responsible should be eternally responsible for the behavior of the irresponsible.

Gravatar spacey,
this bill, unlike dang near every other one you authored was well intentioned and meant to correct a wrong. unfortunately you got blind sided by a mindlessly childish rebuke. but now you know what it has been like for people smart enough to know that the invasion of iraq was a terrible and disasterous mistake. every time someone smart enough not to support that fool w argued against the invasion of iraq, that person faced an extremely childish and foolish retort from the w supporting morons questioning his/her patriotism. how does it feel? one more question: what happened to all those w stickers?

Gravatar Mr. Bigstuff,
I would be really careful questioning the intelligence of others if I didn't have a clue how to use proper grammar. I guess punctuation, spelling, capitalization, run on sentences, and sentence fragments are foreign concepts to you.

Gravatar Briley struggles to reach the appearance of a double digit IQ. Anything more I have to say would be immediately moderated out.
