Gravatar Valentine is an anomaly, of course, in The Tennessean, which, as I like to say, tends to and wants to Babel on. Folks, even though I am a subscriber [leaving aside the fact that my carrier often forgets to leave my paper (conspiracy!)], I am essentially banned from The Tennessean; I want you to know that.

Gravatar I can't imagine why..... ;o)

Gravatar Maybe, you're, banned, for, your, excessive, use, of, punctuation. [I'm only kidding (or am I?)]

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Matthew

Gravatar Matthew's been reading too much Cormac.

Gravatar Well, the trend is to fewer punctuation marks, but if I did that, my junior high and high school language-arts teachers would come back from the dead and smack me with a ruler, though I had to unlearn some commas and other things when I worked for newspapers. I protested, but in vain. Now, I've resumed erring on the side of clarity, baby. I've read enough blogs to bolster that notion.

Gravatar In addition to the consumer view reported by the Tennessean about green jobs and education, Googling The Wall Street Journal, and Fortune Magazine about green business, and reading the three part Nashville Business Journal "GreenBiz" Series running this September through November 2008, will provide more insight.

The simple answer to the issue of green employment for Lipscomb's green graduates is that the market, and no one else, is determining and will determine the success of green graduates. Green grads already find gainful employment as indicated in the WSJ article below.

As a faith based university, Lipscomb stands behind the integrity of its services. Since May 2006, more than 93 percent of graduates have found employment. Since May 2007, graduates secured a mean starting salary at $34,818, with seventy-five percent earning above $30K per year.

Tackling Sustainability-Related Projects
By ALINA DIZIK

The Job: Sustainability Consultant

The Pay: Sustainability consultants with M.B.A.'s typically earn $120,000 to $200,000 a year to start, says Jib Ellison, founder of Blu Skye, a San Francisco-based sustainability-consulting firm. Those with experience in engineering or science can demand an additional bonus or higher pay.

Nature of the work: Sustainability consultants are retained to help companies make business decisions that are both profitable and have minimal impact on the environment. Consultants typically take on short-term assignments almost anywhere in the world and tackle sustainability-related projects, such as developing strategies for energy efficiency or helping companies deal with water and waste issues. It is also common for sustainability experts to spend weeks at a time collaborating with field experts to gain added expertise in a client's specific industry such as energy or manufacturing.
