School is not government. School should remain a place for minds to be shaped. How can students become critical thinkers if they are limited to what information or facts they shoul learn.
Sex education is not teaching sexuality but self-esteem and respect for one's body. After sitting through a serious lecture on sexual diseases and non-existent cures, no student would even want to hold hands.

" School is not government."
You may want to call them and let them know because they keep calling and asking for more money from the state.
"School should remain a place for minds to be shaped."
If that is not scary I dont know what is. school should be for education. What and how you think children as young as 4 or 5 should be "shaped" may not be the same as what I think expecially on sexual issues.

Come on, Campfield. Your "sex bill" is nothing more than an attempt at censorship. Trying to keep children ignorant of all aspects of human sexual orientation is just plain silly.
Your bill actually has nothing to do with sex. It has everything to do with intolerance and bigotry. If you disagree with that, then introduce a bill that will exempt homosexual Tennessee citizens from all taxes. After all, if you are going to refuse to acknowledge the existence of people who are outside your comfort zone, and you insist that those people be marginalized and oppressed, then you should not expect to collect tax dollars from them.
I expect elected representatives to be honest about their motives for legislation and their votes on legislation. Why don't you just step up to the plate and admit that the reason for this bill is your intolerance and hatred of homosexual citizens of our great state.
The GLBT groups are correct. This bill does need to be stopped. Children in public schools should be taught to treat everyone with kindness and respect, not with contempt and hatred.

Such name calling.
Where is the tolerance of people with differing points of view? Why do you want to censor my point of view? Why do you want to marginalized and oppress my point of view? Why do you want to take the children away from the parents and force your values on them? Where is the freedom in that?
My bill is nutral. It will protect against discriminating points of view both for and against the lifestyle you advocate. Save your contempt of others who do not share your point of view for the people who follow your brand of hate.

Such name calling??? Tennessee Citizen didn't call you any names?
"My bill is nutral. It will protect against discriminating points of view both for and against the lifestyle you advocate"
And exactly how does it do that?

Mr. Campfield,
I voted for you because of your stance on issues such as this. I am very tired of having sexuality continually crammed in my face...through television, music, print media, etc...be it homosexuality or heterosexuality.
If folks want to practice alternative lifestyles and teach them to THEIR child, that is their choice. But to take MY child and tell her that this lifestyle is "acceptable" is NOT their choice. I want to right to teach my values to my child.
Your bill will allow our family to teach our values to our child, as well as those who have alternative lifestyles to teach their values to their children.
Thank you for standing up for the rights of those of us who sometimes feel we have no voice, and thank you for allowing me to expess my opinion.

No one is saying you cannot teach your own values to your children, even if your values are loathesome to others. You can teach your child to treat others with kindness and respect or you can teach your child to be a hateful bigot; it's entirely your choice.
I'd like to know your definition of "having sexuality crammed" in your face. I'd also like to know your definition of "alternative lifestyle" since gay and lesbian people have diverse lifestyles just as straight people have.
Why do you think you have no voice? Do you think you are unable to say what you think, or do you think you should be able to say what you think and have your opinion be immune to criticism?
