Maybe it was killed because your fellow legislators recognized it was a bad bill that tried to get the state government to pay for what an individual suspecting he has been defrauded can do readily at his own expense. You must have forgotten to put on your small government pants the day you drafted that clunker.
Child support is mandated by law and the courts. To overturn a court decision you have to go to court. My bill mandated all expense was to be paid for by the petitioner. No government expense.
Hmmm, that bill makes a lot of sense. Too bad "common sense" legislation won't see the light of day in the House until Naifeh's out.
I applaud you for showing the restraint you did when you were dealing with Briley. I probably would have asked him if he thought adultery was appropriate.
Briley sounded like an idiot! If someone finds out that they're not a baby's father, they shouldn't have to pay child support. Duh! How is that "anti-child?" Was Briley suggesting that someone who is NOT the father should continue to pay? Typical Nashville liberal.....shifting costs, not solving problems. Thank you for trying Stacy. This was a good bill. Question... after all that this clown Briley has done... how is he still in office? How can he even show his face to his constituents?
I am a liberal democrat and even I thought Briley acted like an idiot. How is making someone responsible for their actions anti-child? And what does Rep. Campfield's opinions and beliefs on pre-marital sex and adultry have to do with this? This is just another example of people in our society not taking responsibility for their own actions, but instead expecting someone else to pay for it!
Maybe the next single mom (or several) should list Briley as the father on her birth certificate. Then he can have the joy of not harming that child for 18 years.
