A bit overstated don't you think?
People can present whatever image they want when cameras are rolling. Doesn't make it so. (Doesn't make it NOT so either.)
There was an interview with Snoop where he made it pretty clear that he's not that "involved" with the day to day dealings of the kids because of his schedule. That his wife is really the one handling the business of parenting.

How do we reconcile Snoop's on stage image and his image as a father? I don't know the answer. I think it's easy to say these shows portray the artists as family guys, but I think it is more likely that this this is just a part of their marketing. Snoops will sell more albums if he become more palatable to suburban moms and dads. I think we can all agree that Snoop has crossed over from pure gangsta rap to what he is now. This show helps maintain his image as a product.

Can't believe you guys are just dismissing Snoop's and other artist ability and desire to parent. Especially you, rich.

How is this any different from the family model that has existed in this country for generations as one parent worked, the other was the home maker. How different is this remotely different from the family where the father is a doctor or lawyer, or pilor and works 80hrs/week to provide, and therefore, sacrifices some of the day to day parenting? I'll tell you how.. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE. You have been programmed by the matrix to look at their glasses as half empty, while if that were your very own glass, you would seek a medal as parent of the year for the sacrifices you've made for your children's welfare.

1. How many white parents do you think are watching Snoop's show. My money says that they are not the major demographic.
2. Snoop has run a youth football league in Long Beach for inner city kids who, otherwise, would be in the streets during those hours. Passing grades is mandated in order to stay on the team. How many inner city kids do you think are interested in joining snoops league? More than a few.
I've seen his show the first line of his intro is, "this ain't the huxtables, but we living comfortable". I respect the real life depiction of snoop's life as a father. Perhaps it isn't as "palatable" or mainstream as Cos, but Cos was way idealistic, and borderline unreal in today's society. Real life, in most cases, isn't like that.
The family, like the marriage comes in many shapes and forms. Because it doesn't fit into your ideal of a model family does not make it less effective or genuine.

I wouldn't say that any of those show these men as engaged, responsibile heads of the family except Rev. Run.
Snoop is running around like a pimp 95% of the time so I can't watch just the show and say he's a good dad. I'm sure his kids see the other side every time they turn on the TV.
And that mess with Irv Gotti was crazy where he has his kids in that crazy situation, and leaving after they fall asleep is not the answer, nor is telling your wife you love her that's why your not coming back because then you'll cheat and she'll be mad. Pure D foolishness.

Sorry Wayne, but if you've ever watched 5 minutes of Snoop's "reality" show, you would not say what you did with a straight face. That garbage is the most manufactured, scripted piece of nonsense on television.
I haven't been programmed by any matrix. I don't work 80 hours a week, but still feel occasional pangs of guilt over the time I do work that I'm not with my child. I seek no damn medal for what I do. It's what's required. As for Snoop, I dont' see his glass as half empty. I'm simply taking issue with the post which seems to herald the fathering that is portrayed on these shows. Even Snoop himself acknowledges that he isn't that hands-on. It's not a criticism, rather acknowledging that pedestals aren't required for these people.

Good points, Sasha.
I don't think the intent was really meant to put these guys on a pedestal as much as it is to inform us that even those who you would least expect to be role models and father figures, can be.
I've seen Snoops show and understand what you mean about it being scripted, but can't you say that about ALL reality shows? Doesn't the doubt of authenticity exist in any "reality show" that is edited for TV?
I saw an episode of his show where he remarried his wife and rededicated his life to her and the family. Another where he took his boys back to his high school mentor and neighborhood, so they understand how fortunate they are. It's not pretty, but the message is there.
I think that you guys don't give enough credit to the artists who, as they grow and mature, make a shift in priorities from music to family, which may contradict their on stage image.
Gangsters, thugs and hustlers love their families too.

Co-sign with Big Wayne. Snoop is showing ghetto youth that it's cool to be a Dad. He's bringing hetero back, and I ain't mad at him.
Rich,
How do I reconcile the fact that I go out and get drunk with my homies, and, the next day, read lullabies to my two Champions with my Queen? I don't. People are multi-faceted.

These niggas see dollar signs if reality TV. Snoop does not even know what schools his kids go to.
Irv Gotti is even worse. That nigga is on something but you have to fault his baby's momma too. She's a dumb hoe. The nigga done tol' you he's banging other chicks and you still want him to come back? what kind of role models are either of them?
Rev. Run's show is cool. Russell is a funny cat too. Ilm out.
