"If only faithful men could be governors, we may not have any."

Faithful ...?

Umm. Interesting.

What's more "faithful" than a husband and a father that works it out with his wife and stays together?

Do men like Patterson forever forfeit their title of "faithful" because of a piece of ass they got back between 99 and 01?

I suspect there is more to faith than what a man does with his penis. There are men who have never done anything with a woman outside their marriage and are completely void of faith.

Should selfish sullen bitter involuntarily monogamous men, who no other women want no way, be considered more "faithful", than a brother like Patterson who slipped up and spread the wealth once or twice?

They worked it out - kudos to them.

Gravatar Why is this irrelevant, tabloid jounalism the topic of discussion during his first week on the job?

Gravatar Why is this irrelevant, tabloid journalism the mainstream topic of discussion during the first wk as Gov?

I'm surprised this isn't viewed as a grandscheme to normalize and promote marital infidelity to weaken families and control the masses.

Gravatar DV,

I am not so sure about handing the "faithful" tag to this dude and calling a 3 year affair "spread(ing) the wealth once or twice."

I will give him (and his wife) credit for following Sade's manta "Love is Stronger than Pride" and finding a way to make their marriage work.

But...they were both UNfaithful to their marriage during their "difficult periods."

All these news stories... Big J would say this is part of some feminist agenda to overthrow the institution of marraige!

Gravatar Blind negro must have some game.

Oh, and BTW, where does it say that she stepped out on him?

Gravatar KP: I'm surprised this isn't viewed as a grandscheme to normalize and promote marital infidelity to weaken families and control the masses.

Roderick: No, no KP a gay couple in Antartica is more of a threat to the Paterson's marriage than their respective cheating was.

But I have to give it to Paterson. He went gansta when he mentioned that other politicians had had affairs at the same hotel where he and his mistress did.

Basically don't phuck with me because I ain't Spitzer.

Gravatar Given how Eliot Spitzer exited the office, it does not surprise me that there are folks digging around in his past already. I figured they would wait and later accuse him of feeling womens' wrists and such.

With regard to DV and Big J's comments, when people refer to a man being faithful in the context of marriage, whether he's a Spitzer or a Paterson, it refers to what he does with his Johnson. Which of us has not slipped, fallen and found our penis in a vagina?

There are, of course, other definitions of faithful and, yes, it is possible for a man to be faithful in other ways, but the people best able to answer whether a man forever forfeits his "faithfulness" cred are the individuals in that particular relationship.

DV, you pose an interesting question with re: to a married man "completely void of faith" toward his wife. I would say that such an individual should have never entered into the sanctity of matrimony. From the very utterance of the vows exchanged to love, to honor and to cherish your spouse the idea of being faithful is inherent. Work that out, homies!!

Gravatar RJE,

The first paragraph of the article on the other end of the link reads: "Gov. David A. Paterson and his wife, Michelle, have both had extramarital affairs in the past, the couple said in an interview with The Daily News after he was sworn in on Monday."

Gravatar RJ:

I heard on the Today show this morning where Paterson said that they both cheated at a point where their marriage turned "sour."

Gravatar Got it yall. Thanks.

Gravatar "There are, of course, other definitions of faithful and, yes, it is possible for a man to be faithful in other ways, but ..."
CJ

I hear you CJ. But I'm challenging the pop / soap opera conceptualization of "faithful" that has come to dominate the discourse on marriage.

There are men who would NEVER dream of stepping out on their wives, but would look the other way (and in some cases run) if their wives were disrespected by a man they feared they couldn't handle.

There are also men who have tapped that one flirtatious, big tittied restaurant hostess, but would jump in front of a bullet for their significant other, without a second thought.

Monogamy, for men, is a virtue and a gift. Yet it is not synonymous with faithfulness. I think "faithful" for men, deserves a litmus test other than what he does or doesn't do with his penis.

Gravatar Apparently, the Gov was jealous of his wife and was very angry. He said that he bagged "a number" of women and it was several years ago. Hmmmm. That sounds like she dipped out first.

Gravatar Denmark Vesey: There are also men who have tapped that one flirtatious, big tittied restaurant hostess

Roderick: that sounds like a confession

Gravatar LOL.
Nah Brother Rod.

Gravatar Maybe some of y'all now understand the conversation we were having last week . . .

Gravatar I'm back from hiatus..how ya'll doin?

Anyway, so would it be safe to say that a woman's faithfulness is also not directly related to whether she allows someone other than her husband's johnson to trip and fall into her nana?
lol...excuse my silly references...I'm making myself giggle with those...

Gravatar fair question soteria.

Big Wayne

You would be incorrect according to the TSO Social Engineering Team.

Gravatar Ya Rod,
I figured as much...
