Gravatar I have heard of these single-sex classrooms and I think there is no proof that they work.

I remember when I took calculus in high school there were six of us and I was one of two males. I guess since we only had one teacher who was qualified to teach calculus if there had been a single gender class only the females would have been taught since they were the majority and I would have had to wait until college to take calculus.

TSO sez: (or, as Sax puts it, is taught “by soft-spoken women who bore” boys).

Roderick: That makes no sense since I am guessing there are more male teachers now than ever.

Gravatar I think there's been much proof that the single-sex classes have been successful. 'More' successful, however, I'm not sure if the proof says that.

At any rate, I see the benefits... I'm not against it.

Gravatar It may be A solution instead of THE solution. I still think education and frank discussion about sex will go a long way to decrease the number of STDs--not hiding from the discussion.

On going to an all boys school: I remember two fellas in my dorm who did not come back for sophomore year because they were hung up on girls. The girls graduated, by the way.

Gravatar rich: On going to an all boys school: I remember two fellas in my dorm who did not come back for sophomore year because they were hung up on girls.

Roderick: Yeah I don't understand how going to a single gender school is supposed to make you stop thinking about (talking to, texting) the opposite gender.

Uh huh. Just like all that education and frank discussion has gone a long way to reduce alcoholism, cigarette smoking and drug use. Yeah right. When will liberals give up the tired, worn and abused "everyone just needs education" line?

Of course the feminists would never allow same sex schools; they'd come up with some statistic that says that girls receive .08 less pencils per year than boys.

J, that was funny and SO true!

Gravatar Ditto, LOL @ the .08 pencils.

Gravatar I think this is a stretch to say this is a solution for STD problem. I don't see it.

I see the benefit of single-sex education, but not a benefit in terms of sexual interactions. Being in a class with only boys is NOT going to affect whether or not a person uses a hat while havin sex.

If anything, I just think that having single sex classroom's allows for more focus DURING CLASSTIME. After school??? That's a different story.

Gravatar All these "solutions."

I'll tell you the damn solution. Someone needs to smack the shit out of these little fast-ass girls and these swear-they're-hard little boys. Over and over again. Until they get it.

When you see a 12 year old gyrating to a video on BET, snatch her ass.

When you see a young boy acting like he can bust a grape, snatch his ass.

When your child walks out with booty shorts and a halter top at 12, or a dress-like white T and chucks for the boys, damn it resort to physical violence.

Whole lotta problems would be solved if these kids had parents, real ones that is.

Gravatar LMAO!!

I think Robyn just had a DV moment and I agree.

I think too much attention is focused on what goes on inside the classrooms rather than parental involvement outside of the classrooms.

The questions should be: Are these parents making sure their children are getting their homework done?
Are these parents helping their children with their homework?

Are these parents meeting with their children's teachers on a regular basis?

That would do more than some fake class segregation by gender.

Gravatar No single sex classrooms or schools can take the place of good parenting or mitigate the ill effects of the absence of parenting.

I'd rather teach my daughter how to watch where she's going, then to drive a bulldozer in front of her for the rest of her life.

This seems kind of silly.

I knew some really smart guys in high school that i learned a lot from and vice versa. In fact, i wouldn't have made it through A.P. Biology without a few of em. lol

The problem is that young people at large no longer value education for themselves. This is something that no single-sex education scheme is going to fix.

Gravatar RJ does it again!

Ditto Robyn!!!!!! LOL

Gravatar Robyn for President!!

Gravatar Thanks yall.

Gravatar I definitely don't think this is a solution for STDs. But I do think it might give both genders a better, more focused education. I grew up in the Catholic school system in Chicago and most of the high schools were same sex when i went back in the 70s. There was time for boys after school. So, whatever folks do, they can still do it. Girls still got pregnant (though it was no where near as commonplace or accepted as it is now) but the nuns would kick you out if that happened.
