I agree with feeling closer to the Lord as a Catholic. I was brought up Lutheran but converted 8 years ago.

Great advice, Amber.
I will only add that if Melissa is as "cautious" as I was, she may want to start with "objective" sources like an encyclopedia,or history books that present (just) the facts. Filling in the gaps of secular history with Christian history (early Church Fathers).
