I will pray for you, and I always pray for the Catholic Church as I hope we all do. These kind of abuses need to stop. I assume you meant the gospel was read by a lay person? That is not acceptable. I cannot stand the attitude of "well there is a loophole that allows...."

Just so you know, on Palm Sunday, the Gospel is said by parts (the priest is always Jesus, and the congregation is the crowd). This is supposed to happen on Palm Sunday, it is not an abuse on that day.

Dear Amber, I moved from More Light to a new blog and I want to add your blog at my list. I wanted to do this since a long time but...I was/am too chaotic...:-)

Amber,
I think I'm missing something.
The Gospel reading WAS done by a deacon?
No worries, then.
Gospel/Homily MUST be done by a priest or deacon.
I won't even tell you that there's a Catholic Church in Chicago (I'm not going to say the name, but its initials are S as in Saint and S as in Sabina's) which had the Reverend AL SHARPTON give the homily on MOTHER'S DAY last year.
Oops. Guess it slipped.
;)

Ma Beck,
A couple of Sundays ago, the reading was broken up between one of the priests and two lay people. I left a voice mail for the priest stating that I thought to to be improper. This is why I pointed out that it was done by the deacon the following week.
However, the priest (not the one who did the reading) returned my call and stated that though it is not the norm, they make allowances for certain "occasions".
This Sunday, they were back to breaking up the reading again. I found it distracting considering I know it's not permitted, except on one occasion, during the Palm Sunday reading...
As far as the Al Sharpton thing, may I just say, "OH, GEEZ... " *shakes head*
