I really think it comes down to how do you decide what TRUTH is. Are you going to believe my truth or your truth?? Or are you going to acknowledge that opposing "truths" just make no sense in light of John 17. I'm working on a post about this myself. John Martignoni's CD "One Church" has been a really good resource for me on this issue.

You have more patience than me Amber. I think anyone who defends sola scriptura has some wires crossed somewhere else if you know what I mean. The concept of sola scriptura is not itself a logical possibility, so its like arguing with someone who believes in a square circle.. the real disagreement lies somewhere else.
But good points and good discussion!

Indeed, the REAL disagreement behind it all is authority. The bottom line is that the individual believes in his own authority above the authority of a 2000 year old Church, which gave him the Bible in the first place.
It's easy to be patient with Russell, because he seems to be genuine... not necessarily out to "win" an argument but to set straight what he believes to be my misunderstanding of sola scriptura. I think his efforts are admirable and he reminds me of myself before I converted.
We should all pray that Russell will continue to seek God, wherever God would have him and that his heart and eyes will be open to the truth, even if that truth ends up being something different than he believes it to be now. That's a huge hurdle... to imagine that what you believe could actually be half the truth.
In fact, it was the biggest hurdle for me. My pride in thinking I already knew all the truth necessary for my salvation, kept me from seeing the truth about Christianity as a whole, including the history that extends beyond the time of Luther. But, Christians MUST look at ALL of Christianity... most importantly, the early Church. After all the Bible is a book OF the Church, not the other way around.
