This Catholic Journey

Gravatar This passage is what got me through a divorce and the depression which followed. It pretty much explains itself though.

Matthew 6:19-34

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.

But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.

For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

"The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;

but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.

"No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat (or drink), or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they?

Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? 17

Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin.

But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them.

If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?

So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?'

All these things the pagans seek. Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.

But seek first the kingdom (of God) and his righteousness, 19 and all these things will be given you besides.

Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself. Sufficient for a day is its own evil."

Gravatar "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." Rev.21:4

About 5 or 6 years ago, the praise band that Deanna and I were a part of, lead the worship service one Sunday night. In between songs, each member was given a time of testimony.
The theme was "Our hope in Christ", I was asked (before the service) if I would speak about "My future hope in Christ".
The above verse was the one I was ending with, and as I read it, my voice started cracking, and my eyes started tearing up. It was like I wasn't reading it, but like I was experiencing it.
Ever since that day, I've been more and more anticipating Jesus' return. Amen, come Lord Jesus!

Gravatar Because there are times in my life that I need the comfort of the most perfect of mothers, I really love when Christ gives me, and all of us his mother as our own mother.

John 19, 26-27

19:26. When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son.

19:27. After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.

Gravatar Luke 24:35

Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Jesus explains the scriptures to them on the road, showing them how he's been there all along. Then he takes bread, blesses it and gives it to them and their eyes are opened.

What a perfect picture of what Catholic Christianity is all about!

Gravatar This is really hard, because there are so many I love for different reasons. Here are two that I have found relevant recently:

"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken from her." Lk 10: 41-42

“Woe to him who strives with his Maker, an earthen vessel with the potter! Does the clay say to him who fashions it, ‘What are you making’? or “Your work has no handles’?” Is 45:9

Also, Jn 2: 1-11 (Wedding feast at Cana) is a favorite for so many reasons. I particularly love verse 5 where the last words in scripture of our Blessed Mother are recorded:
His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Jn 2:5
