Gosh, I hope the mystery pledger at least gave you a yes/no answer. I believe you mentioned our troops being in the Middle East as cause for the jihad against the west, but isn't it actually because we were in Saudi? (I'm not sure if we still are) Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. And I'm sure you're well aware, Mecca is the holy city to muslims. For 'infidels' to be there is what bin laden is all up in arms about. I think thats what started this tirade.
Our reaction to 9/11, with the exception of Afghanistan (imho) has only played right into their hands.

Yes, the troops in Saudi Arabia were the initial crux of the matter, but "infidel troops" anywhere on "Muslim soil" has been al Qaeda's rationale since they were founded -- fighting the Russians in Afghanistan.
