Gravatar And here I was thinking you were ought campaigning your behind off...

The sonnet isn't as bad as that. Not great, but not bad. Just read through some of the stuff produced in the 18th and 19th century, and you'll feel better. If you really want to feel inferior, read Wordsworth's political sonnets, but most other political poetry is far from sublime. Your sonnet is better than one I wrote in college about Teddy Kennedy: it was the year he ran against Carter, and the substance was a conjuration to go home and shut up. And that one got published in the school literary mag.

Now tell your Muse to get some political stuff going....

Gravatar it coulda been worse .. it coulda been an attempt at a villanelle ...

Gravatar Steve,

I would never attempt to lip-synch "Girl You Know It's True," even on a blog.

Regards,
Tom

Gravatar My cousins own land along the border and are afraid to defend it lest they lose it in a lawsuit, which has allready happened with the blessings of the Texas Rangers. It's not just illegals it is criminals who will kill anything that breaths life. What are people like this supposed to do?
Read William Johnstons book 'Vengence is Mine."

Gravatar It seems that iambic pentameter has at least bit you in the thigh. But "That which once in open freedom rose" would make the first line scan better, and the "open" would play off against the "close" two lines later. I have no complains with the rest of the meter . And I quite like the "pious solitude of soil" (though the "death and deadness of the dead" seems...redundant...as long as you've got to have those syllables, add something with them!).

At any rate, I endorse any effort to get more sonnets written, and more immigration policies relaxed . Props.
