Gravatar The problem with Unity '08 is that it is clear that it doesn't do anything to solve a problem. It is also improbable that any establishment politician would join. Which is just fine of course, because I beleive this thing is designed to act as a sink to capture frustrated voters and waste their votes on more of the same. And people here on the web recognize that at best, this would be just more of the same. There is no compelling reason to support Unity '08 if you want change.

Gravatar For some reason, folks really liked Angus King when he was in office here in Maine. For some reason, we've all come to the conclusion after he left that he wasn't all that hot. He just looks good in comparison with the current guv, and with anyone who's on deck.

BTW are you sure you don't have your own alexa ranking? Look here at yours. Now, look here at mine. They're different, and both much different than Blogger.

Gravatar Tor,

Weird -- they must have changed something, because used to when I checked Alexa, it gave me blogger.com's rating.

I think the point remains the same, though -- even my sad-sack little blog is wildly more trafficked than unity08.org. That can't be a positive sign for them.

Gravatar I'm showing Alexa ranking Unity 08 at 154,830
http://info.alexa.com/data/detai...ww.unity08.com/
Freedom Slut ranking at 1,419,533
http://info.alexa.com/data/detai...reedomslut.com/
and Google ranking at 3
http://info.alexa.com/data/ detai...=www.google.com

Google shows 581 inbound links to Unity 08
http://www.google.com/search? hl=...G=Google+Search
and Google Blogsearch shows 15,212 posts linking to Unity 08

Gravatar They're off to a bad start for several reasons:

1. They don't have a candidate, so no one knows if they will want to support him or her yet.

2. They don't have a platform so no one knows if they will want to support the Unity08 candidate yet.

3. They are attracting people from all sides of a lot of key issues, and the arguing is already irritating the moderates.

4. They have a web forum for members to vent, but haven't really indicated that they will listen if the membership decides to choose a platform the founders don't like.

Gravatar If Unity08 does take off, it faces another problem -- a hostile takeover. What's to stop one major party or the other from loading up the votes to select a candidate geared to hurt the other party more? Or someone with little chance to win, over someone who might be more competitive?

If Unity08 never breaks the 100,000 member mark, maybe disgruntled libertarians will be able to take it over and draft a smaller government, anti-war, pro-civil liberties platform and candidate that might actually win....

Gravatar How accurate are those rankings?

My Presidential site http://phillies2008.com is ranked
1,145,422
and we are barely out from beta testing.

Gravatar Alexa rankings are an estimate based on how many visitors with Alexa installed on their computer visit the site. So they are a decent aproximation of traffic levels provided nobody has been inflating the numbers using certain traffic exchanges that specialize in just that or visiting their own site using multiple computers with Alexa installed.

However from one of the sites that I run that I know is not being tampered with that a site that ranks in the low four hundred thousands is getting an average of 1000 visits a day.
