Gravatar Thomas: As such thirdpartywatch has nothing formally and directly to do with the Libertarian Party, except that it is registered by your Libertarian friend Stephen Gordon. The website is for any third parties, from the constitutional to socialist workers party, although most news on the LP. Therefore one should not see too much in the Viquerie acquisition. of the site. BTW: Viquerie worked with Goldwater, who is regarded as the "father" of idea of the LP?

I heard on Kubby's radio show today Cory supported Root originally, perhaps he has switched to Barr? No idea? Anyway, you cannot make a candidate responsible or directly conenct him with the actions of one of his supposedly new supporters. It was Root, not Barr that released a release vs Ruwart and I do not suspect Barr himself had anything to do, nor would it be his style.

Gravatar I has a clue, here: http://www.nostate.com/71/libert...ns-for-statism/

Gravatar Thanksh mister Knapp. Hope all goes well out there this coming weekend.

Gravatar When the Libertarian party was small, only people very dedicated to its founding principles would join. Now that Libertarian candidates get press coverage and the party has more resources, we have to actually vet our candidates. This is not a crisis, but it means the days of me automatically voting Libertarian are gone.

Gravatar I think your post on this recent development does a great service to the LP. I hope that many people read it.

Gravatar I don't think the LP will survive the nomination of Fairtax fascist. It will have become a tool of evil and should be destroyed if Barr is the nominee.

Gravatar i agree, joseph. i'm afraid the LP is already lost. what really concerns me is that the term "libertarian" will be hijacked just as the term "liberal" was. it's so typical of any political establishment to slowly embrace state power. it could turn out that, ultimately, the LP was a bad idea to begin with.

Gravatar Brian:

The LP wasn't a "bad idea".

The bad idea was in not defining it's purpose clearly and explicitly enough that an amoral opportunist such as Shame Cory and desperate short sighted people could come in and screw up it's essential and immediate function, given the cercumstance; to educate people about libertarianism.

Gravatar I hope I'm not the only one who remembers that a similar kind of takeover destroyed the Reform Party.

Gravatar Hey! Thanks for all the great info about the libertarian party. I was browsing through a bunch of political websites and blogs (mostly liberal ones) and I came across your blog and find it to be very interesting. There are a bunch of others I like too, like huff post, and other news sites like politico. Do you know of any that cover politics and the environment? I saw earthlab.com which has mostly environmental info but some politics. I took EarthLab.com’s carbon calculator (http://www.earthlab.com/signupprofile/). I was pretty easy to use (and it doesn’t make me feel guilty after I take it). Are there any other blogs you would recommend? Can you drop me a link to your favorites or any ones with green info?

Gravatar The, show up and vote for Barr and then leave, is not evidence for a takeover of the LP. IF the purpose was to take over the LP, then they would be asked to stay and vote for the Chair, the LNC, and, maybe, even the judiciary committee.

It is evidence for get out the vote for the Barr nomination.

The "nonringers," will then choose who will control the LP for the next two years.

I believe that the Presidential nominee will get the U.S. of the mailing list.

We will see, but I think it is likely that if Barr gets the nomination, it will be Viguerie running a direct mail operation using the LP's list.

I wouldn't be shocked if we don't see frequent mailings between now and November.

Anyone who gives money to Barr, will then be on Barr's mailing list. And, for all I know, Viguerie will get to keep those names as part of the deal.

Regardless, Barr will surely have the names to be able to use for fundraising in the future.

The "threat" of takeover is more likely to be something like, "Barr
Libertarians" actually begin to participate in party governance, run for office, and the like. And, these
Barr Libertarians might be significantly different than the rest of us. Perhaps more conservative.

To tell you the truth, I think this "conspiracy" theory is just about as sound as the theory that Ravenal's candidacy in 1984 was part of a planned CFR takeover of the LP. Thank heaven that Bergland saved us from that!
