Ok, for me, I think it was the Democrats who sold me out.
From time to time I give to causes like those you mentioned (as well as Oberlin, yes, I do, every little $20 helps). However, the way I know it's the goddamn DNC is that they are the only ones I gave to after moving into my new place last August.
My frequent hitters are: Amnesty International, International Rescue Committee, Southern Poverty Law Center and Fresh Air Fund.
Your post cracked me up because I have been ranting about this annoying situation for a while now. As to phone calls, Bush hasn't rung yet, but Craig from Allied Interstate calls twice a day and leaves messages about how I urgently need to call back. Seriously, 2 a day. I've tried to call back to say, take me off your F-ing call list, but you can never get an operator on the line!!!!!
J - I once read about someone who uses a slight variation on her name each time she gives money to an organization so that if she starts getting mail from new places addressed to jher in a certain format she can tell who's to blame. Smart, no? (I confess that I think I read about it in Jane.)
