I know, it does sound like a strange situation when you can't get people who work for a non-profit to accept free food, but the truth is I over-ordered so badly that I couldn't get anyone to take pizza home with them because they hadn't already eaten so many leftovers!

I think bodega guy might have just felt he had to be nice to me and take the pie to make up for asking Mark why he never sees him with any of his female Asian students.

I'm guessing the woman turned down the food 'cause it looks bad to be eating a slice of pizza the size of a dalmation's head out of a box filled with similar slices while asking for money? Now that I think of it the only food stuffs I've been able to succesfully give away on the A train have been maximally portable (pistachios from my Grandpa's hoard, granola bars, a bagel, oranges, left over noodles in a brown paper bag). Way to carry that weight all the way home.
Wow, you have had really good luck giving your food away! I didn't mention it here, but I have been rejected in the past: my chinese food has been turned down more than once, and once a whole bag of bread was also given the no (by someone who had no teeth, so that one seems very forgivable).

It's an essay by Umberto Eco detailing his attempt to travel home with a salmon someone gave him as a gift. I think the salmon spoils in the end and he's forced to throw it out, so you have an edge on Eco there, even if NYC's homeless and hungry find your offerings suspect.
