Isn't it funny that a few years of experience under the knitting belt make a previously frustrating project seem simple? That's your reward for re-doing, no punishment will be forthcoming from the knitting gods.
I walk to work most days, but the transit system here makes it very challenging to go totally car less. I could do it, I suppose, but I do need to drive out to the suburbs for work. We just super insulated the house, air sealed etc, and saved tons on heat this later winter and spring.

I used to be without a car back in Singapore & Australia. Singapore was OK, but Perth would be like what you're going through. We're currently without an insinkerator. The husband misses it, I don't.

So glad the gloves are less of a problem for you now. I too was without a car in Ann Arbor for about 2 years. I'm happy to say I was about three blocks from downtown and the bus station. It's a relatively small town so no ride was ever over 45 minutes.
