Gravatar Sorry your hero disappointed you. I guess it's worth remembering that hating GWB doesn't *necessarily* make you a good person.

Gravatar Huh?
My hero? Hello? Do you drink early in the morning?

As for GWB, I never hated him. I just think that he is very stupid and illiterate.

Gravatar >Do you drink early in the morning?

Yes.

>As for GWB, I never hated him.

I was talking about Hugo, not you.

Gravatar I was talking about Hugo, not you.

Got it. Thank you, agree

You act as though this alliance between the Chavez regime and the Ahmadinejad regime was something new.

It isn’t.

As far back as September of 2005, Ahadinejad said, "Hugo is my brother, Hugo is the champion of the fight against imperialism."

In September 2005, Venezuela was alone in opposing a resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that found Iran in violation of nuclear safeguards.

The alliance between Hugo Chavez’ regime and Ahmadinjedad’s Iran is a long-standing one.

Elsewhere you say, “History tells us that when an uprising like that happens, a fascist state eventually collapses,” but history tells us NO SUCH THING!

In FACT, authoritarian regimes are rarely, if ever defeated from within.

It took a World War to remove Hitler, Tojo and Mussolini from power.

While in Spain, Francisco Franco ruled until his death in 1975!

Likewise, the two biggest mass murdering tyrants of all time (Mao and Stalin respectively) both ruled until they died!

How about Augusto Piochet?

Was he brought down by the people of Chile? No!.

Prior to the elections of 1988, Pinochet legalized political parties in 1987 and called for a plebiscite to determine whether or not he would remain in power until 1997. If the "YES" won, Pinochet would have to implement the dispositions of the 1980 Constitution, mainly the call for general elections, while he would himself remain in power as President. If the "NO" won, Pinochet would remain President for another year, and a joint Presidential and Parliamentary election would be scheduled.

Was this a response to any opposition from the people or from international pressure?

Pinochet had no trouble suppressing the weak opposition that existed in Chile for the previous near 20 years, so why bow in ’88?

Turns out that a major reason for Pinochet's decision to call for elections was the April 1987 visit of Pope John Paul II to Chile.

According to the US Catholic author George Weigel, he held a meeting with Pinochet during which they discussed a return to democracy. John Paul II allegedly pushed Pinochet to accept a democratic opening of the regime, and even called for his resignation.

What history really tells us is that humanitarian, especially leftist utopian-drive governments almost always deliver economic devastation of unspeakable proportions and in doing that, they sow the seeds for more authoritarian regimes. Mao, Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot (four utopian socialists) are the exception rather than the rule, but what saved ALL of them was that they were all committed to authoritarianism and brutal repression ahead of any given ideology.

In most cases, the likes of Pinochet and Franco follow up failed socialist regimes that have imploded their country’s economies.

But histo

Gravatar ...But history DOES NOT tell us that “the people” rise up to overthrow authoritarian regimes....in FACT, that rarely, if ever happens.
