Gravatar A Happy New Year indeed!!!
Looking forward to another new year in the Blogs...

Happy New Year, Timmer!

Gravatar Well, Happy New Year, Timmer! Looking forward to the new blog.

Gravatar Timmer

In the interests of fair and balancedness, I hereby humbly put my name forward to be one of your guest bloggers.

Don't just be another conservative lurve-fest, Timmer; the world needs debate. This could be an action-packed situation for wild discourse or just a right-wing drone fest for an already saturated choir.

You know about marketing, surely? Find a different angle! I reckon that a blog with competing veiws would supply that angle.

Now, I know that you are going to say 'Well, go set up your own site' etc, but why re-invent the wheel? You are looking to revamp your blog, and this is an opportunity to prove to the world that the right's philosophy IS superior to the left's.

C'mon, take a walk on the wild side. Let's all go head to head. Who knows WHAT we all might learn? We may even discover that the distances between us are not as vast as we might think; in the end, we all want the same thing - the questions are only about how to get there.

So, how about it? Or are y'all...chicken? I don't think so.

Happy New Year!

Cheers

Elroy

Gravatar Happy New Years Timmer!
Waiting for the info to start posting. Ummmm... Let's get it on!!

Gravatar Aubrey, Amy and Hawkeye -

Thanks, and happy New Year to you all as well! Sorrey for the delay, but I had a big problem with the server that holds my images (you may have seen the mess that was this site for several days earlier this week!?). Thankfully, that has been resolved.

I have also had a personal issue take much of my time as of late, so I apologize for the delay. Please be patient a little longer, and we will get started in another week or two.

Elroy -

As much as I enjoy some of your writing and our debates, I will confess that despite the temptation to take you up on the offer I will, sadly, have to decline. Not only do you not meet all of the stated criteria for being an associate (e.g. MUST love America), but you do not follow simple directions (e.g. email me stating your case) etc, etc....

I will say again - you really should start your own blog. I promise to visit often!

Timmer

Gravatar Ooh, a sticker for the rules, ain't 'cha? I thought you Conservatives were AGAINST unneccarsary
red-tape and regulation while being all for can-do mavericks and iconoclasts. Obviously, that's only CONSERVATIVE mavericks and iconoclasts.
Fair and balanced, that's the way!

The thing about rules, Timmer, is that, by and large, if you make 'em, you can break 'em, or at least that's what George II seems to think, but that is only If no third party is harmed by the waiving of said rules. Such is NOT the case for George.

But such is the case for us. For you to stick to your so-called 'rules' as if they are etched in stone by the creator/messiah/prophet of your choice is, frankly, rather worrisome. Do they REALLY matter?

Anyhoo, I'm happy to jump throgh whatever hoops/arcane buereucratic procedures/legislative operatiions you care to put in my way if it makes YOU happy dear leader. An email? On it's way!

And anyway, I DO love America - it's just the current ruling elite/oligarchy/theocracy/dictatorship that I'm somewhat critical of, but don't fall into the trap of mistaking that for hating y'all. i'm sure you had some pretty bad things to say about Bubba, but did that make yo a traitor? On the contrary, I'm sure you thought that made you a patriot, but it works both ways, matey (and don't, for a second, even THINK of accusing me of 'moral relativism')

'There are many cultural aspects of your nation to which I owe an unpayable debt. Over 150 million US citizens are intelligent, compassionate, reasonable human beings who have no great imperial ambitions and who just want to feed their families, keep them well and be left in peace. Sadly for them, however, there is a noisy minority that wishes to deprive them of even those basics and to govern the most fundamental functions of their lives.

So I'm on the side of over 70% of the US population. I love them. So, therefore I love America. I want to see democracy prevail. I want to protect the Constittion and the Bill of Rights. I want to protect the world we live in, for all tthe people who live in it What could be more patriotic than that?

Cheers

Elroy

Gravatar Hey Timmer,
Came across the site while looking at the GOP Blogger blogroll. You have some good stuff here. Consider visiting my site. I actually work near you and worked for a defense contractor as well (now I work for defense) so maybe we have met.

Drop a line and we can discuss.

Gravatar Hey Timmer, I love America too and I'm not American. I pray that one day I can live and work in America, that is my ambition in life. If I was an American I would be a fierce patriot.

Hope you are well Timmer!

j

Gravatar Elroy,

"Sadly for them [over 150 million US citizens], however, there is a noisy minority that wishes to deprive them of even those basics and to govern the most fundamental functions of their lives."

Ahhh, you refer of course to the Democrats! Glad you're on the same page.

(:D) Regards...

Gravatar Ahh, Hawkeye! The figure of 'over 150 million US citizens' is an extrapolation from the election statistics which tell us that Al Gore won the poplar vote in 2000, that a vast amount of voters had been ethnically cleansed from various voter rolls by 2004 and that both the House of Reps and the Congress are now controlled by the Democrats. If we take these stats as a reasonable sample group of the US as a whole then we can say that over half (way over half if Bush's current ratings are anything to go by) of the US population favours a Democrat(ic) government. Over half would be a majority, would it not? (Majority: 'The greater part or number; the number larger than half the total.')

This majority is:

Intelleligent: '...having good understanding or a high mental capacity; quick to comprehend... displaying or characterized by quickness of understanding, sound thought, or good judgment'

The minority (Minority: 'The smaller part or number; a number, part, or amount forming less than half of the whole')
that support the Iraq war, however...

Compassionate: Those who feel...'deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering'.

Or, again, there are those that support the Iraq war...

Reasonable: 'Capable of reasoning; rational...governed by or being in accordance with reason or sound thinking...being within the bounds of common sense....not excessive or extreme; fair.'

Does this describe proponents of you-know-what? I'm thinking affirmative...

And have 'no imperial ambitions'

There's that Iraq thing again! Ah, the failure of the right to grasp the bleeding obvious is a constant source of fascination to me.

They want to 'feed their families'.

37 million Americans live in poverty, 12.7 per cent of the population - the highest percentage in the developed world. America's Second Harvest (http://www.secondharvest.org/), the nation's largest network of food banks, reports that 23.3 million people turned to the agencies they serve in 2001, an increase of over 2 million since 1997. Forty percent were from working families. The minimum wage has just risen for the first time in ten years.

'Keep them well...'

In 2005, 46.6 million (15.9%) Americans were without health insurance for at least part of the year. 'Adverse Selection' prevents the sickest from accessing health care. Socialized medicine? Better to see any doctor than none.

'...and live in peace.'

See: Iraq war, Afghanistan, NRA, Patriot Act, Homeland Security Act, US justice system in general etc

Meanwhile there is the 'Noisy minority'...

Noisy: 'Attracting attention by showiness...'The Republicans rule the (air) waves, or at least they like to think so. They have an entire international cable news network at their disposal. Goering never had it so good. The Right have infiltrated every public body and institution while more honest and hard-

Gravatar honest and hard-working citizens are too busy being just that.

'...that seeks to 'deprive them (the majority) of even those basics...'

Socialized medicine is despised by the right, as are hikes in the minimum wage (See: Intelligent, compassionate & reasonable).

'...to govern the most fundamental functions of their lives.'

Conservatives, for all their 'freedom' rhetoric, seek to control what I do with my body. It's mine. Not yours. In the end, it's all we have. Leave it alone, please.

So no, Hawkeye, we are not on the same page. We are not even reading the same subjects. I am perusing political non-fiction; you on the other hand, are knee deep in bedtime stories and fairy tales.

Cheers

Elroy

P.S. Please forgive the overrun. I'm out of practice.

Gravatar lol Elroy.....you are like the official dissenter of this blog. Keep up the good work!

You're right though, Americans like to think they are the cream, when it comes to health care, education etc, yet those crazy liberal bastard statisticians come up with these crazy statistics which keep placing America close the bottom of the list amongst developed countries, in these major categories of human welfare.

Gravatar Elroy,

I'm delighted to learn that such an off-the-cuff joke could impassion your sensibilities to a Level 3 Hurricane of witticisms. We must play again sometime.

(:D) Regards,

Gravatar P.S.--

The temperature on my computer went up 10 degrees with all the hot air that just went through it. Whew!

Gravatar Thank you, purplehaze, for your kind words of encouragement - I do what I can. Someone has to burst their bubbles and, although it seeems a tad harsh now, one day they will come to thank me. Hopefully. If there is anything left.

FYI, since Timmer appears to be somewhat asleep at the wheel right now, I have very recently become dissenter-in-residence at 'Veiw From Above' and taken up the cudgels with my new chum Hawkeye. Come and see the fun!

With regards to those pesky statistics, never forget the wise words of one S. Colbert - 'Reality has a liberal bias.' One of the facts I like to torment conservatives with, especially the more sanctamonious right-to-lifers, is that America's child mortality rate is higher than Cuba's! Won't ANYONE think of the children?

Now, 'scuse me while I kiss the sky.

Cheers

Elroy

Gravatar PS. I'm delighted you're delighted Hawkeye. But be warned, that was but Level 1. Furthermore, If you were 'joking' then am I to assume that you didn't really mean it?
I don't think so. You did mean it, and what impassions my sensibiities is lame 'gags' and demonstrations of willful ignorance such as you supplied. Hot air? Or substantive fact?
I note that you conveniently avoid actually adressing the points I made. Typical. But what else could I expect?

I'm ready to play any time, good budddy, but ignoring the debate will gaurantee that you will lose. Be IN it to win it!

Cheers

Elroy
