The Mind of Timm's Readers

A good point I've often made. Following Christ doesn't mean you'll suddenly have no more problems, become finacially independent, etc. That's why I can't watch certain evangelist's who peddle that tripe. It's a difficult walk, a struggle. This, Christ promised. If anything, it makes you realize the full extent of the temptations in this world. If anything, it opens your eyes to your OWN sinful life, and the accompanying remorse. Yes, there is great joy, and I do not fear whatever will come in my life. To only put forth one aspect while ignoring the other, cheapens the wonder of Christianity.

I agree that some televangelists do get on my nerves with this prosperity gospel.
I find that it is easier to talk more about the good things God has done for you rather than talking to someone about sin. However, if you promise prosperity with salvation are people excepting Christ only based on their wants. It reminds me of a class I took before and the topic was virture. The professor wanted to know if people were capable of being virtuous without motive and he considered Christianity a motive because there was a reward (heaven). I obviously argued against this.
There is one thing I think you can promise and that is a peace that will come over you.

So, how do you shine your light before men if you do not speak of the good things the Creator has done for you? How can we sit there and talk about our sins, if in fact we are believers and trust the promise of the Creator that our sins are forgiven? (Note that forgiven is not only a future tense but a present tense word.) If we only talk about the negative, what is there to believe in and hope for?
The Good News is a happy thing, about Good News. It is not a focus on the sin thing, but a focus on Jesus thing. There is nothing more wonderful than a life with Jesus!

Also, btw, I don't believe in preaching about money or rewards. That focuses on things instead of Jesus. Life is the reward. Knowing that others were influenced by your life with Jesus is the reward. Don't expect any other reward than life to the fullest - for the Kingdom of Heaven is not about things or power.

I think what Timm is saying is that you can not focus on one side of God. Sin and judgement have to be addressed along with God's mercy and grace.
