It seems to be the older kid version of the SAHM vs working outside the home mom debate. Just as ugly. Why mothers do this to each other is beyond me.
Good essay!

I agree with your issue about any person who uses thier "cause" to make a political statment about others. We should all live and let live. If people want to do what they see as best, great. They just don't need to justify thier cause by putting down people that don't see it that way. There are positives and negatives on both sides--as with everything in life. But I know far too many people that feel so insecure with their decisions that they have to emphatically broadcast the reasoning to others (to the point of criticism) and that is not right. I know I can't change those people so once they appear I avoid them. Definitely not a kindred spirit. I don't want my energy pulled down to fight them either. I politely smile and find a reason to go else where.

Right with you on this one. I just read an article in Child magazine in which the homeschooler was quoted as saying that her child would learn to think, but kids in school just learn to follow rules. I was infuriated that the magazine would publish such a ridiculous statement.
I, too, think that my kids gain a lot from having a variety of teachers, from being exposed to subjects and teaching methods I would probably not employ. And yes, there are bad things, but if any of these homeschoolers were being honest there must be some negatives there as well. Just can't admit them out in public.
