All I can say is: WOW. Hope some other schools catch on. Sounds fabulous!
Our school is very similar. One thing that really impresses me is that the principal knows me even though I'm rarely there because I work. She'll see me without my kids and say hi to me by name. It's great! I think those community issues are just as important as the educational ones.
Yes, I've loved how the principal at our school calls each kid by name, waves at each parent and asks how she/he's doing, stops to talk to little siblings. I love how other teachers, the ladies in the office, other parents, all seem to know Matthew's name.
I love our public school too, and I don't even find that a strange thing to say
