i have totally done the same thing!
i worked at standard & poors a few years ago, it was a two day assignment. the first day i went in, i forgot to pack my work shoes in my bag, so there i was with my grungy grey new balance sneakers, and my nice little pair of pants and a sweater set. i decided to say nothing and walk around with a limp all day, pretending that i obviously had hurt my ankle and couldn't fit into regular shoes. I WALKED AROUND WITH A LIMP ALL DAY!! the problem was, that i had to do the same thing the next day too!
last week i walked out of the house with my house flip flops on and didn't realize it till i got to the subway and by then i felt too lazy to turn back, so i ended up wearing them to work...

Ugh, didn't "work" shoes go out last century with the big floppy bow blouses?
I stopped wearing pumps back in the very early 90s. Comfy shoes for me, even with dress clothes (having a double wide foot demands it)! Though they never were stinky

The pajama thing is such a slippery slope. I LOVE being in them and sometimes never change out of them But the embarrassment comes because people WILL stop by and have seen me this way. Also it is easy not to even take a shower when you don't really get dressed...slippery, say!
